We were at Carmel Charme resort during the month of november 2012 for four days and overall have had a great stay in what I'd qualify as a ""small resort.""
On our arrival we had a welcome drink and the staff was indeed helpful. The problems started when we got to the room and realized that we had, perhaps, an upgrade. To make a long story short, they made a mistake and gave us somebody else's room. And this meant that we had to change room later on and in a hurry 'cause the other people had arrived and were waiting for their room!
The atmosphere at Carmel Charme is very serene and relaxed throughout the week. Music around the poool area is easy-listening and soft. Things change drastically from Friday until Sunday night. The reason is that the small resort has on both sides houses that belong to people who live in Fortaleza, and come to spend the week end at their cottages on the beach. Nothing wrong with that, one might say... Well, the problem is that we were not able to sleep at all --and I mean ""at all""-- during our stay in there, for most of these people who come spend the week end in these houses were young adults and they partied from 4pm till 4am non-stop with a very loud --just imagined being in a loud disco (and this is no exaggeration at all, believe me!) and double the noise 'cause they really come to the beach prepared with their latest sound machines -- very loud and state-of-the-art sound systems. In other words, bring very efficient ear-plugs if your stay includes a week end in there.
Next morning, when people queued up to complain at the reception about the noise, the manager replied that, first, it was the very first time that such ""horrible thing"" had occurred at the resort. Second, he said that the police came several times during the night, but the teens would turn the music off just while the police was in the neighborhood. As soon as the police would leave it started all over again!
Another negative detail about this resort is the swimming pool. It is only 90 cm deep and it is tough to swim without having your feet touching the ground. I'd say almost impossible, really! Very deceiving indeed the swimming pool.
At the restaurant, the food was tasty and service was good. For most of the meals we had local grilled fish with delicious rice and some vegetables. Nothing too fancy, but still very satisfactory. Service is slow as it is the case in the whole region.
The beach is magnificent, but dangerous. Deserted during the week, it gets a bit crowded with the boisterous young adults coming from Fortaleza during the week ends. There is some garbage at the beach --a recurring negative detail in the region and Carmel Charme is not an exception!-- and it seems the hotel is not worried about that, for I complained about it in the beginning of our stay and the garbage (plastic bottles and beer cans) was still there when we left!
The gardens are very luscious and amazingly manicured on a daily basis. Very nice coconut trees all over the resort where they serve, twice a day, small pieces of fruits on a plate for all the guests at no cost. Service around the pool is the best. The guys care to all your needs and most of the time without even you having to ask for it.
This is also true for breakfast. The personnel is great! In addition, you'll have tasty and fresh great food. The fruits were just delicious and varied throughout our stay and so was all the eggs, omelettes etc.
Last, I would recommend this resort if you don't care much about swimming pools and like rough, beautiful white sandy beaches, and a relaxed atmosphere and peace during the week; For the week ends, forget it!
