“Small rooms, but a clean hotel”
Reviewed 3 April 2012

The hotel is comfortable and clean, but the rooms are small. So it's nice for a couple, but not recommended if you will stay with your kids.
It's not in the best location in town, but is not far from the best neighborhood. The price is fair for what it has to offer. It has a small bathroom, but the shower is a good one. The TV is LCD.
My room had a small infiltration problem, but nothing serious (more of an aesthetic issue), because is was not smelly (there was no damp in the air, nor fungus on the walls).

Room Tip: The elevator sometimes takes a while to get to your floors, so I'd prefer a room in the lower le...

This hotel is very close to the beach, but it is not one of the nice beaches. The outside and the lobby look pretty impressive, but the rooms are a bit basic and nothing special. Internet via a cable, a shower you can not turn on without getteing wet in a very small bathroom and simple furniture. The breakfast is the standard you find in Brazil. I have stayed here for four night on business and that was too long. The staff is OK but most of them do not speak English. As a plus, there is a mini-bar in the room.

Placed in a nice neighborhood, in front of Iracema beach, hotel Sonata de Iracema is a nice hotel to stay. All the rooms are ocean front and you will sure enjoy the view.
If you enjoy rollerblading or skateboarding you'll love Iracema beach at night!

The façade reminds you of a small town house, but then you notice there's like a 14 floor highrise incorporated into it. The lobby is beautiful and spacious with excellent air conditioning. The wait staff during the day at the restaurant would only come to the table if you insisted. Accessibility problems: low toilet, high sink, no shower bench, angled grab bars (don't gelp at all), no lowered counter at the front desk, NO WHEELCHAIR ACCESS TO THE POOL!! I demanded a discount and got 100% off on one night.

Stayed here 3 nights while work was being done on our nearby condo. I found the room quiet and had no problem at all with noise from adjoining rooms or the street, though the hotel does at times host events in the pool area which could generate noise (usually not much past 10). On New Year's Eve and around Carnaval, the city has many free "festas" (mainly music shows) on the beach across the street, and these can be loud and go late into the night. Just something to ask about in advance.

Rooms are small. They have either two twin beds (twin, not double beds) or one "casal," essentially a double bed, adequate for two people if they are not large. Hotel is used a lot for conferences, and can often be filled, so if you want a particular type of bed, you need to specify that in advance. Fiteness center is very small. Pool small-to-medium size.

Lobby and restaurant area have a business hotel feel. Nothing exotic or lush. Included breakfast is fine. Menu items for lunch or dinner are a bit on the high side but not outrageous (the chicken and rice soup, with toast, at 14 Reais is probably the best deal). If you expect to use Wi-Fi, note that is available in the lobby area only (where there are also 3 PCs for public use though only two were working over the course of a week). If you want to use your computer in your room, ask for a cable at the front desk. Connection was fine. The small, flatscreeen TV has a few international channels (does have CNN and Fox News, but not BBC).

Views of the beach are nice.

All in all, a decent hotel and without an old, rundown feel, though to my mind you get less here than you would at a typical chain hotel in the U.S. for the same price.

I'm in the hotel as I type this. Here are the good and bad points.
Good: It's on a great beach in a pretty good area. All the rooms face the beach. They have a nice pool area and restaurant. Rooms are clean and average size as compared to European standards. Awesome over head shower, highest pressure shower I have ever experienced. In room medium speed internet.
Now here’s the bad as I see it. The walls in the rooms are paper thin, you hear everyone talking, even in the halls. I have to turn up the TV real loud to drone it out, it’s that bad. At the time I’m here these are many kids for that makes it worse. It’s so bad I am changing hotels in the morning. The rooms have all very small twin beds, these are no other options. No one speaks English, which for me is a problem. Lastly, they have no irons for pressing your cloth. If you stay here you will need to bring your own.

I booked a room in this hotel on booking.com and paid 2x less than the usual hotel rate :)

The hotel is situated on Avenida Beira Mar, where most hotels in Fortaleza. Just 10 minutes from the "beach market" where you can buy souvenirs. Also, not a long distance from restaurants.
Even if the staff told us to be careful while wailking on the avenida, we felt quite safe and nothing unpleasant happened.

The rooms - very spacious and with beautiful ocean view. Breakfast was impressive, diverse and delicious. It's one of the best things in the hotel I will remember :)
Another: friendliness of the staff. I had an impression that many of the staff members remembered us, even if there were hundreds of guests in the hotel, they always smiled and said "hello" and asked if they could help. Very kind people.
Receptionist booked for us a trip to Beach Park. On the day of our departure, we were allowed to stay after check-out hours without paying.

Usually we prefer pousadas and small hotels in Brazil, but Sonata was a very good choice and if we go back to Fortaleza, we will definitely choose that one again.
