Good for business trip or few days in Fortaleza. Rooftop pool and bar are ideal. Gym, sauna and steam room are well worth to use. Jacuzzi was busy so I didn't try. Excellent breakfast. Hotel arranged a trip to Beach Park. Really good fun! Must go and visit

Gran Marquise is probably the best hotel in Fortaleza. Located at Beira Mar Avenue, facing the beach of Mucuripe and the Atlantic Ocean, it is indeed one of the most beautiful hotels in Ceará State, with oriental looks and nice décor. Rooms are comfortable and bathrooms are modern and functional. A complimentary coffee table at the main lobby - available at any time - is a welcome plus to all guests. But, and there is always a but, I'll stress a few points. 1) Front Desk is the first problem, friendly and correct, but should instruct guests in how to operate the lifts, prior to have them reaching the rooms. Since I had no one to help me with my luggage, I got inside of the lift with some other guests and kept going up and down, without reaching my designated floor. Not even a small sign/card - posted inside of the lift - informing where to insert your room key and get the lift going was seen. I felt really stupid as soon as I realized the lift trick. Security, yes, but lack of adequate information. 2) Breakfast (included in the rate) is good, but not unforgettable. I've seen other hotels in Northeastern Brazil with better options and much bettter service at breakfast buffet tables. Waiters looked tired and not much motivated. 3) Room service is a total nightmare: you may wait over one hour to get a standard (and cold) club sandwich. 4) Bathroom amenities are rather average and not consistent with a 5 Star Hotel. 5)Maintenance is always a problem at any hotel, principally at those located right in front of the sea. At Gran Marquise it is not different and poor maintenance is letting this beautiful hotel look old and decaying. I think it is never late to straighten things up and bring Gran Marquise to its former splendor, as I found in my first visit three years ago. Nevertheless, I still think Gran Marquise is a reference hotel for Fortaleza and I would stay there again. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the sea are always the best ones. Mine had only a lateral view, which was not bad, but...

Gran Marquise announces it's a 5-star-hotel on its webpage. But it lacks those qualities present in 5-star-hotels. Swimming pool area is small. Bed mattress and pillows are hard and not comfy (I missed a Hilton bed so much). Loud air conditioning in room. My room was also a smelly. Other than that, I must say that the spa area is nice, breakfast is awesome and service is great. Perfect location, right next to Cocobambu restaurant. Yes, I would stay there again, but will try Luzeiros hotel next time.

It´s well located in front of the beach, rooms ok with all items.
Air-contidioner working good, but control batterys should be changed as not were ok at all.
Breakfast complete, with local ingredients and so on...
Negative point: food in the room by night, slow motion.
Besides this, the hotel is great. The hotel itself is in a beautiful location right on the beach (see panorama taken from the roof). The pool on the roof was very nice

Excellent hotel. Rooms are wide and clean. Breakfast is also excellent, assorted breads, very well selected fruits, and so on. Location is also very convenient. There are many restaurants in the are and conviniences. The beach in front of the hotel is not the best of Fortaleza, but is enough for a walk at sunset. Plan to return!

I stayed here for business in September 2013. The hotel itself is in a beautiful location right on the beach (see panorama taken from the roof). The pool on the roof was very nice (also pictured), and the rooms had strong air conditioning and comfortable beds that made going to sleep at night a pleasure. The restaurants in the hotel were also very good, particularly the breakfast buffet which was included in the price of the room.
My one major problem on this trip though was the taxi to the airport that was arranged by the front desk at the hotel. I had no more Brazilian currency and asked the front desk to exchange US dollars. They would not offer that service. So I made it clear that I needed to pay by credit card. The hotel agreed to arrange this with the taxi driver, with the instructions to take me to the airport to pay by credit there. After this was clearly directed to the taxi driver by the hotel concierge, I was taken directly to a gas station by the taxi driver, who expected me to "pay the fare" by buying him gas and beer! I was then told if I didn't give the attendant my credit card, I would be kicked out of the cab. It turned out that the gas station did not accept credit card (only debit), so the taxi driver went from gas station to gas station until he found one that accepted my US dollars. It was a terrible experience, and I was furious that the hotel arranged for this taxi on my behalf.
In short, if you take a taxi ANYWHERE in Fortaleza, make sure to have plenty of Brazilian currency, because this hotel does not exchange foreign currency and the taxis do not take credit cards (and will try to force you to buy them gas and beer)!

Let's start by saying that the standard of city hotels in the brazilian north-east is fairly low so the expectations on the Gran Marquise weren't high.
In any case this is meant to be the best hotel in Fortaleza but is surprisingly disappointing.
Location is good. Period
On the rest, the rooms are pretty outdated, service is awful, food not good (not even have all the dishes that are on the menu) and not even the TV works!
The staff vary between almost friendly to really rude.
I come a couple of weeks a month to Fortaleza on business and this one is simply a no no
