“Appleton Inn B&B - not just for quilters!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2007

We started our annual fall color change drive in Appleton, Wisconsin this year and stayed the night at the Appleton Inn (also known as the Quilt-N-Be Bed & Breakfast). Our first impression, as we walked up the stairs, was this B&B looks inviting, lovingly maintained, and somewhat eclectic--be sure to look closely at the gingko tree out front. .

We were warmly greeted by the owners, Carole & Gordon, who invited us to leave our shoes at the door (we do the same and felt right at home). They gave us a quick tour of the historic house that they have decorated in a Victorian style with bright colors and fabrics. Carol is a quilter and her handiwork is everywhere from upholstery to wall hangings. Our daughter was with so we stayed in the Red Hen suite on the second floor. This spacious area has two bedrooms, full bath, kitchen and living room. There is also a room devoted to quilting for groups who want to hold a weekend retreat. We looked at the other rooms and all were nicely decorated and equally charming.

Carole and Gordie (as Carole refers to him) sleep in the refurbished attic. We suggest you ask for a tour to see how they turned this space from dusty attic to a dramatic loft. There's a garden outside the house where artfully positioned mirrors on the fence provide an interesting perspective of the flowers.

Carole is an adventuresome cook and we really enjoyed her chilled strawberry soup, fresh orange juice and strada. Afterwards Carole & Gordie took time to chat with us and we felt like family.

We've stayed in many B&Bs over the years both in the US and Europe. We think Carole and Gordie have the right approach and recommend a visit if Appleton is on your itinerary.

Carole and Gordie were wonderful hosts. We stay in B& B's just
because we love the interaction with the people we meet.
Our room with King sized bed was light and airy. The leaded glass
windows were beautiful in the sunlight , when rainbows danced
across the room.
Breakfast was yummy. Cinnamon pecan french toast
and sausage, delicious.

We were on our way to Door county but wish we could have stayed longer in this great B&B. Carole and Gordy were the best hosts we have ever had. Carole is extremely creative, all the rooms boast handmade quilts by Carole and many great decorative touches.
We were in the large yellow and blue room with a king bed, private bath and a little kitchen. Carole has an exuberant color sense and the whole house benefits. In the morning we had to tear ourselves away; we could have talked forever.

The first time my boyfriend & I stayed at the Quilt-N-Be it was a suprise for me on my birthday. We both loved it there, that we have stayed there 2 other times & will be staying there again in the future. Each time we have stayed there we have had a wonderful time. Carole & Gordie are wonderful people. They are so friendly and hospitable and make you feel "at home" in their home. Their home is so beautiful & well kept-inside & outside. The rooms are decorated beautifully and the breakfasts that they serve are delicious.

My boyfriend & I would recommend the Quilt-N-Be to anyone who would like to have a nice relaxing place to stay and to meet two very nice people.

We can’t wait for our next opportunity to stay at the “Quilt ‘N Bee” Bed and Breakfast in Appleton, Wisconsin. In addition to the prime location that is within walking distance of downtown Appleton, it is even closer to the Fox River where you can take quiet leisurely strolls along the river. The B & B is bright, cheerful and welcoming. From the moment you drive into the driveway, you are made to feel part of the family. Carole and Gordie, the owners, are as gracious and warm as anyone could possibly expect. They are knowledgeable and willing experts on the local area. They take and show a great deal of pride in their establishment. They are willing to give you a tour at a drop of the hat and we assure you it is well worth the time. Carole is a master seamstress whose quality work is displayed throughout the B & B. You can see evidence of Gordie’s handiwork at maintaining, upgrading and improving the rooms. All this, coupled with superb breakfasts make the “Quilt ‘N Bee” a must stop if you are in the Appleton, WI area.

While my son spent the night at Lawrence University, I spent the night at the Quilt-N-Be Bed & Breakfast. My spacious beautiful room afforded me all the comforts that I needed after a long drive from Kentucky. My room, with large comfortable chairs and a gas fireplace, provided a place to spend the evening reading. The television with cable allowed me to stay abreast of the unusual impending April Midwest snow storm. My host, Carole and Gordie were so kind in helping me to choose the best route to Minnesota in navigating through the snow storm. I never thought that I would actually enjoy snow in April, but my room with its large windows, fireplace, cozy bed and chairs was the perfect place to settle in and enjoy the beauty of even a spring snow. If my son does choose to attend college at Lawrence, I look forward to many more stays at Appleton’s Quilt-N-Be Bed and Breakfast.
