My family and I stayed at the Franklin Street Inn, along with some friends of the family. On the positive side, the place is clean, conveniently located near downtown Appleton, and has a nice wrap around porch. Having said that, I would absolutely not stay there again nor recommend it because of how we were treated.

First, the rates we booked at where not the rates she charged us. Rather we were charged more. And in being charged more there was no rhyme or reason as to how she was charging for each room. The rates are not posted anywhere in the Inn as they should be and she charged us more than even the rates posted on the Inn's Internet website. Oh, and apparently if you don't use the Whirlpool jacuzzi in the Franklin Suite you get a discount. Bottom line is to be sure to clarify up front how much you are paying and check for hidden fees/discounts.

Second, she insulted all of us by claiming she ran the Inn as a Christian Mission, which she somehow linked to explain/justify her rates. And she practically ran us out of the house on Sunday because she had to get to church and it was clear that our breakfast (which is part of the package) was interfering with her ability to timely get to church.

Third, she was a bit busy about our affairs for my taste but perhaps that is a subjective experience.

Fourth, like I said, the house is clean and has a nice wrap around porch, but the house itself is very busy. Granted, it's Victorian style lends itself to such business, be prepared to not have anywhere to put your things down either in the rooms or the parlor.

Spent three nights at the Franklin Inn in Appleton, Wi. Found it while trying to find somewhere to stay during the EAA show. The Inn was great, Loved the decor, room was very comfortable, the bath was great; plan on returning next year. Hosts---Judy and Ron Halma made you feel like you were visiting family, breakfasts were delicious, will need to go on a diet after you leave. My husband and I had a great time there, great visiting with the hosts and the other guests. Prices was very reasonable; convenient parking. Suggestion, don't follow Rand Mcnally, or yahoo directions; ask Judy or Ron for directioncs then it is VERY easy to get to. Area is quiet and peaceful, but still close to downtown or any other place you'd like to go to.

Our stay here was an absolute delight! It could have only been better if it would have been longer. The Turret suite was an awesome suprise and an incredible room. Our suite was very clean with beautiful Victorian decor. It was great to relax in front of a roaring fire in our whirlpool tub. Breakfast was wonderful. Every bite brought on an explosion to our taste buds. What a treat! The hostess was very courteous. We were able to truely enjoy one of the best romantic getaways we have ever had. We can only recommend this inn to all!

We have stayed at the Franklin Street Inn numberous times, having the opportunity to sample all of the rooms. This has become our home away from home when we visit Appleton. Our favorites are the Turret and the Franklin Rooms. While the Inn is welcoming to families, the rooms certainly lend themselves to romantic getaways for two (double whirlpools and fireplaces in some rooms). The Turret can be booked for up to 5 or 6 people, but there is limited privacy with the in-room whirlpool (though it is a perfect set up for romance).

The Franklin Street Inn is conveniently located in downtown Appleton, WI, two blocks from Lawrence University, near countless good restaurants, and less than a mile from the new Fox Valley Performing Arts Center. But you might have a hard time leaving your luxurious room, especially if you book the Turret Suite. This charming Victorian house, turned Bed-and-Breakfast, has all the modern amenities: comfortable beds (Oooo, those wonderful sheets!), whirlpool tubs (built for two), AC, ceiling fans, good lighting (can be adjusted for mood), and off street parking.

Breakfast is always delicious, including juice, bottomless hot beverage (your choice of tea, coffee, hot chocolate), and might be.a fruit parfait, a frittata, sausage, AND homemade carmel rolls... Or it might be Judy's Turtle French toast , bacon and a fresh-made smoothie...Or in the autumn, it might be apple crisp and pumpkin waffles and sausage patties...Or--well you get the idea--always plentiful, always tasty.

Judy and Ron Halma are wonderful hosts, kindly and generously opening their home to visitors. From the friendly welcome (with fresh baked chocolate chip cookies) to the way Judy remembers your preferences after you first visit , to the good advice on everything from local shopping to traffic patterns, these innkeepers have it right. You just might end up feeling like part of the family!

The ammenities were better than most bigger name inns and the innkeepers made us feel welcomed and special. Keep up the good work Ron & Judy. Stay at the Franklin Street Inn and you won't be disappointed!!
