“Damn Good BBQ”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

Great place! Bob is a great host, they make you feel very welcome there right when you sit down. Good beer selection and excellent food. They are working hard there, and the customers tastebuds are reaping the rewards.
When they can work out some better sound for the great live music they attract, it'll be even better!

“Good service but the food is nothing special”
Reviewed 21 July 2013 via mobile

We tried Bob's based on other on-line reviews that said their BBQ was great. We found the ribs to be overdone and dry, and a bit cool by the time they got to the table. Same with the pulled pork. Seemed odd that fries are not on the menu at Bob's. the cole slaw was very good; potato salad was not. I liked the spicy barbeque sauce but eveybody else thought all three sauce choices were too thin and watery.

Bottom line: We wanted to try it, we tried it, and our search for great BBQ in the Madison area continues.

As you can see from the reviews of other customers, your experience at "Bob's" is certainly atypical. If you had made your waitstaff aware of a problem with your meal we could have addressed any issues while you were here. Unfortunately there is little we can do for you after you eat your meal without complaint and leave. I see that you didn't like Smokey Jon's in Madison either. Maybe hickory pit, Memphis style barbeque (dry rub) is just not what you are looking for. The home made tomato/vinegar sauces are thin on purpose (there is no added water or high fructose corn syrup) and the East Carolina vinegar sauce is the consistency of vinegar as it should be.

“Good BBQ in WI? Yes!”
Reviewed 22 August 2012

We've taken vacations to Texas and KC focused on trying as much bbq as possible. We've also had a fair amount off bbq from Memphis. So, we have something to base our opinion on.

The giant pig picture on the sign out front tells you the most important thing: Order the pork! The brisket and chicken are ok. Real brisket lovers will tell you how hard it is to find awesome bbq brisket outside of Texas, and I think they are right. But pork? Bob's knows how to make awesome bbq pork products. The pulled pork is outstanding and the ribs are tasty. Sauce variety is great. The beans are definitely cravable (which I can't say about beans in Texas). The slaw is pretty good. And homemade beer bread with local Lake Louie beer? I could kiss Bob.

Prices are very reasonable, as serving sizes are very generous. Get ready to be full. Or, if you aren't as hungry, share the combo platter or sandwich with someone.

The atmosphere is clean. Larger tables and a small bar in the front, smaller tables and a small live music area in back. A very casual joint where you can chat with locals and the owner most nights. Check the hours, as they are limited.

“Worth the drive....great food.”

The best bbq we have ever had. Try the sampler platter that has brisket, ribs, chicken and pulled pork..you will love it. The baked beans taste like they were cooked all day.

“Best BBQ in Wisconsin”
Reviewed 6 August 2012

The BBQ was tender, slightly smoky. Bob stopped by to discuss his process. He uses lilac wood. I've never had bbq with this wood but I sure liked it. Try it as you go to American Player Theatre in Spring Green.
