“A Step Back to the 1960's”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

This hotel was designed by a famous architect in the 1960's and has been maintained as such. It's very impressive architecturally, in a beautiful location overlooking the lake.

The included breakfast was very good and the location outside the Oscar Restaurant was very pleasant and peaceful.

The staff was very attentive and very pleasant

The negatives....

- The room is spartan..clean but spartan.
- The bed was as hard as a rock
- The WiFi was slow and spotty
While there was cable, they had NO stations in English...this made the stay kind of boring and, after 3 days, I was glad to leave.

I have stayed recently in this completely remodeled and renewed historical and fancy Brasilia historic hotel.
The hotel is part of the city construction during the 50s, 60s and hosted historical society events during that period.
After being completely rebuilt after a fire that destroyed it entirely, it is brand new and beautiful!!!

The hotel itself - beautiful and is in a very peaceful location. You'll need to get taxis to get in to town but that is pretty much the standard in Brasilia anyway.

The rooms - nothing special - very simple Travelodge style rooms - and whilst the concierge staff are very helpful there's isn't too much in the way of added extras to feel pampered during your stay. But the hotel doesn't market itself as the last word in luxury so you shouldn't be expecting this of your stay.

The Oscar restaurant is pretty average - there are definitely better options in Brasilia but it is convenient if you don't want to head back into town.

Overall - good value and worth it to stay in a Niemeyer in the city he designed.

Room Tip: Get a room on the north side as these have a marginally better outlook though there are no really go...

Nice design hotel, with a great view to the lake and a polite and helpful staff. You are guaranteed to have a great night of sleep. Breakfast could be better, but not a major problem. It is worth what they charge. Definitely would stay there again.

The hotel, built from Oscar Niemeyer, got style of course! It's also a typical star hotel with all the trimmings: clean room, balcony, minibar, 24h room service and a really great swimmingpool with service too. Unfortunatly the restaurant was closed when we have been there. Instead it took place in the hotel lobby, what is not the best place for a restaurant. But the service was nice...
Nonethless we mostly ate on the room because of the horrible atmosphere and the remote location of the hotel.
The receptionists are a bit grumpy and not very helpful.
All in all we had a good time there... you just have to except the anonymous atmosphere!

We enjoyed 2 nights at the Brasilia Palace in the middle of January. The hotel is away from the main tourist sites but then not everyone would like the hotels which are closer - bland chains. The Brasilia Palace has character and we were pleased with our choice. The reception staff were very helpful and Oscars was a big hit with us - good food and great value.

As we had expected, the room was functional but we would have preferred a better mattress.

However, given the room rate was so reasonable, we can't complain too much! Recommended with reservations.

As 1st time tourists in Brasilia, we felt we had the choice between some very standard business hotels and big chains or a true design icon. We chose the latter. This Niemeyer hotel is certainly a must for design fans, but don't expect it's been treated as a legend. Certainly some renovation in the rooms would do no harm, especially the wooden doors and balcony/window fronts. The standard rooms are standard and the rececptionists were less welcoming than anywhere else on our trip to Brazil. The hotel breakfast was in a nice restaurant, but again here the staff seemed overwhelmed. It's highly recommended to go by rental car as Brasilia in general is hard to get around without. With the car, we felt the hotel had a good location and we were happy we didn't stay in any of the other nameless chains.
