“Noisy and busy”
Reviewed 6 August 2013

This street has a lot of shops, restaurants, bars and a couple of pousadas. It is right off of Praca Tirandentes. It is definitely worth exploring, but the city needs to deal with the back up of cars. The street is already small and there are parked cars too.

“A Great Place for Buying Souvenirs—and Exquisite Jewelry”
Reviewed 4 November 2012

"Rua Direita" (The Street to the Right), as the locals call it, is a great place for getting souvenirs from Ouro Preto. There is a good variety of shops, all neatly arranged downhill from Tiradentes Square. Some of Ouro Preto's most quaint and conveniently located hotels are there, too, such as the Solar da Ópera and Pousada Clássica hotels. It also boasts some of the best restaurants in town (try "Casa do Ouvidor", and ask for a table near the front balcony.) However, if you really want to take home a truly memorable souvenir, consider shopping for some exquisite, gemstone jewelry: imperial topaz, amethyst, acquamarine, tourmaline, emerald and many others. Rua Direita is laced with jewelry stores, on both sides, and, if you don't find the exact piece that you want, the jewelers can gladly fashion one for you, even from your own design, within a couple of hours or so. A few words of caution though: "watch your steps." It is way too easy to fall and hurt yourself on those cobblestones.

“Rua Direita!”

That's the place to hang around in Ouro Preto. Let yourself wonder up and down the street from Praça Tiradentes.
