“Good for visiting falls but not much else”
Reviewed 2 April 2012

I had a large, clean room with a large, clean bathroom. I see some reviewers mentioned small rooms; I think there are different sections of the hotel so specify that you want a room in the back section. The breakfasts were quite nice and provided early so that one could easily leave for the falls on either side with a good early start to catch early morning light and avoid some of the crowds. They charge for wifi which I find annoying but since they have a large hotel and have put in multiple systems, at first I thought it was reasonable because it could be accessed from the room. Unfortunately, when I was there, I had significant problems with it and quite frequently had to go to the reception area to get online. The hotel did remove the charge from my bill because of this which I thought was a positive thing. (One desk clerk also told me they were changing their system.) Access to buses is great. Access to the town and restaurants for dinner were problems. There is not much around the area and although I felt safe enough walking around in the evening looking for places to eat, there just isn't much around there. Dinner at the hotel restaurant was pretty awful. It's a large hotel with reasonable rates which is good but at the same time, when I had some problems and needed some help finding an alternative way to get where I was going across the border in Argentina, the front desk sent me to the in-house tourist office who sent me to the hostel next door! This is part of what convinced me to return to smaller hotels and beds & breakfasts as I have moved on.

Room Tip: Ask for a large room - there seem to be different sections of the hotel with different sized rooms...

The hotel was out of the way for most attractions and restaurants in the city. The room was small (not much room around the bed and not a lot of room for luggage - mainly on the floor). The bathroom was very small. It appeared that the room had just been renovated and was very clean. Other reviewers had mentioned large rooms - but we did not see any of those (maybe our room was a large one that had been split in two). The breakfast was adequate, but the evening meal was nothing to write home about. There was a very limited choice. There were very few restaurants in the local area and walking around in that area at night was not inviting. There was a supermarket nearby.
The best thing was that the hotel was close to the main bus station so that a bus to the Falls was easy to catch and the return journey went straight to the terminal so one didn't have to worry about which stop to alight at. Overall, Ok for a couple of nights but not for any longer..

Good value small hotel with comfortable if a little small rooms, good hot and cold selection for breakfast and nice pool on the roof, albeit in the shadow of neighbouring apartments most of the day. Perfect location for buses to/from the airport and the falls, or even to Cuidad del Este in Paraguay. Foz has a reputation for being a bit down-beat, but it's fine.

Hotel is basic but nice, rooms are comfortable, clean and safe. There's a tour operator who can arrange trips to the falls for you which was great. Breakfast is ok but nothing much around the hotel to do so good for falls trips. One thing to note is that there is lots of building work going on which isn't too noisy but looks a bit messy. Wouldn't put me off.

Construction work still in progress. Good buffet breakfast. Cheap. Noisy old air-conditioning unit. Small pool. Strictly for the budget traveller.

BTW If you're coming for the falls, you might be better with a hotel near the airport,

Hi!

Thank you very much for your review. The best way to improve our services is reading the point of view of our guests.
We would like to inform that all the air conditionings have been changed to split model last December, so probably it was not working properly. We have already asked the maintenance to check all of them.

Once again, thank you very much! Hope to see you again!

We spent 3 nights at the Hotel Del Rey during December 2011. Its a decent little hotel - rooms are nice and clean and the staff are helpful and friendly. Best of all it has a great rooftop pool and bar, which is needed in the heat there. Its also very handy for the falls being literally a stone's throw from the bus stop - cross the road and wait at the stop (its opposite the hostel with the Copacabana style pavement) - you can catch a bus directly to the Brazilian side of the falls and also to the airport as well as (I think its the white bus) to the Argentinian side of the falls. Its easy peesy and its soo much cheaper than going with an organised tour. There's also a nice Churrascaria next door to it, which is very reasonable. Definitely the best choice for us in Foz.
