“Very clean, great kitchen, caring owner & good value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2011

We really liked this place. The rooms were a little small but very clean. The beds were comfortable and the mattresses looked new. Breakfast was plenty and good.

The owner, her daughter and the other employee were very caring and made our stay very pleasant. We were helped with using the grill and when my girlfriend got sick. The owner even brought tea to my girlfriend in the room and checked a couple of times on her. Also, we got excellent advice from them for the day trips we took to the falls and surroundings. The service was absolutely outstanding.

I totally disagree with some of the bad reviews here on TA. Not having a telephone in your room or having security bars in front of your window should not be reasons for giving bad reviews. This is not a Ritz and we are in South America where security is an issue.

We stayed for 5 nights and getting a 10 reales extra charge (in total) for using the kitchen for 4 nights doesn't give me any headache. Because the kitchen is perfectly equipped and very clean. Being charged 2.50 reales for using the WiFi for 5 days doesn't give me a headache either. Yeah, it's standard to get it for free in most hotels but 1 USD don't get me angry at all. The owner tells you about these charges beforehand, so there should be no surprise.

We had initially booked a room at Charm Suites just down the road from Pousada Evelina. However, upon arrival, we were shuttled over to the latter, as the staff claimed that Charm Suites had been fully booked and assured us that both guesthouses were owned by the same person, and that a room at either place would cost the same.

We were assigned a room in Pousada Evelina which was small, but pleasant and neat. The staff spoke good English and were always very helpful in providing tourist advice and booking bus tickets for our next destination. We appreciated that they help purchase tickets for rides on the local buses for guests (the cost is added to your tab), so that we didn't have to dig into our pockets for change when taking public transport.

However, be prepared to fork out extra money for things such as use of the Internet (even if you have your own laptop, you need to pay a connection charge), change of towels, use of the kitchenette, use of the shower after check-out, and any phone calls to travel agents that the guesthouse makes on your behalf. These extra charges are not made known at the time of booking - only after you check-in and read the notices pasted around the guesthouse. We were not aware of the extra charge for the use of the kitchen until after we returned from the supermarket with bags of raw food to be cooked. There were notices warning guests that they would be fined should they be caught removing food from the breakfast room or using sunscreen in the swimming pool - which we found rather off-putting. Thus, what started off as a nice stay dwindled into an average experience.

Do note also that unlike what we were told, a room in Pousada Evelina costs more than one at Charm Suites (but we weren't charged the difference in the rate.)

Pousada Evelina is a lovely little place in Iguasso falls that is close to shops, bars and restaurants and also the local bus (cheap) to Iguasso Falls (Brazilian side). Evelina and her Daughter take pride in their B&B and are more than helpful when asking for advice on the local area. They organise trips to the Argentinian side and also transport to/from the bus terminal if required.
Rooms are spotless, we stayed in number 13, as is the rest of the place including the pool. Breakfast is lovely in the conservatory and sandwiches are available to buy for lunch. I dont really rate Foz De Iguassu as a place much but Pousada Evelina is a great place to stay after treking around the falls.
