“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2013

We were booked into the Viale Cataratas by our travel agent. The rooms were listed as "deluxe" accommodations. We had two rooms, one for my husband and me, and one for our son & daughter. Both rooms were on the first floor right off the lobby. Our room faced the parking lot so we couldn't really open the curtains or windows. The other room had a view of the dumpsters in the back of the hotel. The decor in the rooms is less "sleek contemporary" and more "dorm room". The worst part was that the showers in both of our rooms had mold growing and our shower was infested with ants. We asked three times to have the showers cleaned but our requests were completely ignored. They didn't even pretend to make an attempt to clean the showers. These rooms were certainly not deluxe and the service was very lacking. The food and service at the restaurant were not at all good. Our lunch took over 45 minutes to be delivered-one meal every 10 minutes or so-the bread on one sandwich was completely stale, another sandwich was completely the wrong item and the shrimp never arrived. On the other hand, the lobby and pool areas are quite nice.

Room Tip: Maybe ask to see the shower before accepting the room.

A good value hotel, clean and very organized, with comfortable rooms. The hotel has a Tour Agency that can plan and organize all visits (Itaipu dam, Iguaçu National Park Brasil, Iguaçu National Park Argentina and Parque das Aves /Bird´s Park/).
Iguaçu falls are an absolute must, really fantastic.
Viale Hotel organized a very good Réveillon Party (2012/2013).

Room Tip: Rooms very close to the lobby, on first floor, are a bit noisy.

Our recent stay, Oct 24 - 26, 2012 left a lot to be desired.
The acoustics are horrible. The large atrium surrounding the front desk amplifies every noise. while in our room we could clearly hear conversations from the front desk.

Our room, 104, was close to the atrium and directly above the pool and outdoor bar. The noise didn't let up until after midnight.

We asked for a room change but were told the room we had "was excellent".

Ants were found on the desk and the mini-bar so it made it hard to set anything there as you were worried about putting the items back in your luggage.

They called us late one night with a room service request we had not made. After telling them this we woke up to service knocking on our door with the order we had just explained was not ours. To make things even worse, I noticed at checkout that we were being charged for the meal!

Never again.

Dave

Room Tip: Make sure your room is on an upper floor and at the end of the hallway.

This hotel is place on the busy main road between a city of 350,000 people and the main tourist attraction in South America. Consequently it is extremely busy and noisy. Our room faced the road... say no more. We did try to change it and reception were helpful giving us an alternative but this faced a noisy generator. I could not sleep which has never happened to me before, I can usually tolerate a lot of noise. Some of our group had rooms at the back facing the pool and had no traffic noise. Apart from that breakfast was pretty poor with little choice, there was a digital safe and a hairdryer. There are no shops or anything else in the area and it's a long way to town. There is a pleasant looking outdoor pool. We did not use the restaurant but some of our group did and found it mediocre. However opposite this hotel is another - Hotel Bourbon - where we ate a wonderful meal. Ambience here was much better. I asked to see a room and it was very nice. This is set much further back from the road so less noisy too. This one is slightly more expensive but we would recommend it any time in preference to Viale Cataratas.

This hotel is good value with clean comfortable rooms. The restaurant offers a good buffet meal of an evening and breakfast is also good. The pool is nice a bit grubby and drinks service at night is a little slow to say the least. The hotel is a bit out of town but plently of taxis and there are restaurants that offer a free mini bus pick up.We went to Buffalo Bronco BBQ which was amazing food and great value. This is a good base to explore the falls which are an absolute must. If you do visit make sure you go to the Argentinian side to see the full impact as the views of the 'Devils Throat' fall is amazing

Room Tip: Maybe ask for a room overlooking the pool as the road side is noisy

Modern building, convenient location to/from airport and the falls but no shops or restaurants nearby to walk to. City center is about 15 minutes drive away. Comfortable beds; bathroom had lots of tiny ants marching up & down the wall! It did not bother us, though. More than adequate offerings for breakfast; try the "crepes" made with tapioca flour; something different. Re Customer Service, this is another story. 1st Case: Reception staff not friendly, snotty as a matter of fact. We couldn't open our safe one afternoon (after using it without problem the day before) so I called front desk. When nobody came after about 15-20 minutes, I went down & asked the reception staff again if somebody can help. Her answer was very curt: "somebody is going up to your room"; was not even apologetic for any inconvenience. To make a long story short, it turned out that the batteries (?) inside the safe were dead that even their electronic "master digital codes" couldn't get it opened. A physical "key" finally did it. 2nd Case, same day: Asked another reception staff where the nearest ATM is. Was told its at the City Center & that the hotel van can take me there & back for $15. It turned out that the hotel/Convention Center across the street has an ATM. All I had to do was cross the street! Shouldn't hotel staff be more knowledgeable of most, if not all, available resources tourists need? Or do they just want some business? 3rd Case: There were 6 of us traveling. Dining room staff won't let us put 2 square tables together to accommodate us all for breakfast. (Is that really a problem?) Will I recommend this hotel? Not really.

Room Tip: Ask for one without those tiny ants!

New and starkly modern. Very neat almost sterile. Good location for touring but far from any walkable locations. Not much to do in the hotel. Rooms facing the road get traffic noise. Wifi costs about $5 for 3 hours. Not sure why they don't just make it free.
