“Pleasant setting, good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2014

This is the more formal restaurant at Hotel das Cataratas, and while I would generally prefer the informal Ipê for its variety and relaxed atmosphere, Itaipu offers good food in a very pleasant, tasteful setting, so if you are staying at the hotel for several days(as we did) you should try it for a change. The food was Brazilian/international, well prepared and attractively presented. Good wines, pleasant service.

“A creative dinner in a gorgeous place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2013

Our dinner at the Itaipú Restaurant was a memorable experience.
The restaurant is very beautiful and elegant, all adorned with amazing pieces of Portuguese ceramics.
The food was very good, the dishes were prepared with creativity and an original touch. To begin with we had primadona cheese with a sugar cane syrup, garlic butter, picles, black olive tapenade with delicious bread.
My husband had as main dish cod fish confit with roasted potato slices and vegetables, garlic foam and tapenade.
I had low temperature lobster with mint and rue sauce, green asparagus and palm heart "fettuccine"
The dessert was remarkably interesting: gluten-free manioc cake steeped in cachaça, rosemallow anglaise and hierba mate sorbet.
To accompany our dinner, I chose a Brazilian sparkling wine (Brazil produces very good sparkling wines!) and my husband had a red wine.
Although the dining room was very beautiful and nice, the gorgeous evening inspired us to have our dinner at the veranda, with the magnificent waterfalls in front of us.
An unforgettable experience I recommend with enthusiasm!
