“Relaxing resort”
Reviewed 23 January 2014

We stayed at the resort for three nights while visiting the waterfalls. The rooms was absolutely great, tastefully decorated and it felt almost new. Nice beds and cleaning was good. Free wifi in the room and around the hotel, but you can only log in with one device, so choose wisely - maybe the tablet or computer is a better choice than your mobile phone.

The hotel had a system where you used your room key card to pay for drinks and food. You ordered, the staff scanned you key card and when you checked out you payed the bill everything you consumed during the stay.

The staff working in the front desk and tour desk speak good English, while other staff aren't as good. Some patience and a smile always helps.

The breakfast buffet was crowded and some thing run out quickly without being replaced, that is the only negative thing we experienced.

Nicce, recently renovated rooms. However, they lack balconies giving a motel-feel. Wi-fi (free) with strong signal.
Excellent hot breakfast buffet and very good quality of food served during lunch and dinner.
Four pools with natural, but quite hot water.
10 minutes/20 reias by taxi from downtown. Nice garden area.
On the negative side, for adult travelers the place is often noisy as it serves school children.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a trip organised by Trailfinders so do not know the cost of the room.

First thing to say about Iguacu is that the falls are stunning. In terms of hotels when visiting the falls you need to decide whether you are prepared to pay a premium to be within the park and be able to see the falls from your hotel. In all honesty I don't think that it is totally necessary - after all you spend the whole day looking at them from better vantage points.

Mabu Thermas is a big hotel seemingly catering in particular for Brazilian families and conferences. The grounds are nice; the pool area a bit like a mid range European all inclusive hotel with animation staff. Room was not immediately available and getting our luggage required me to push it on a trolley before anybody helped.Room allocated was conveniently close to reception and of good quality.

There are a number of Restaurants on site. The main one is cavernous - buffet costs around £20 a head and includes soft drinks. This is not intimate/sophisticated dining but if you are selective you can have a perfectly adequate meal. We also ate in the Italian restaurant - menu looks limited but we enjoyed our meal. The wine is expensive. Town is not far away and it is worth considering eating there particularly at a traditional Brazilian meat restaurant.

There was an issue with our bill when I checked it the night before leaving. This however had been sorted out by the next day.

Breakfast was OK but coffee poor.

Checking in here kick started my vacation. Very accommodating staff. Complete with things to do. Alcohol is pricey but everything else is worthy. Made the iguaçu visit from good to great. Really worth coming back to whenever I plan to have another glimpse of the wonderful falls

I stayed at Mabu for 5 nights during end of October - beginning of November as part of a larger group attending an international event. The hotel is only a few minutes from the airport and the Iguassu Falls park which is very convenient. It is slightly far from the town although the town itself didn't seem to be much of an attraction.
The rooms are spacious and clean. The bathroom is also spacious. The meals are served at some large restaurants, buffet-style. Food was largely diverse, meat-based, but not impressive. Vegetarians and fish-eaters had their choice too. There is also a good choice of tropical fruits and sweets as desserts.
Restaurant and bar prices tend to be higher than a European guest would expect but, again, this is linked to each person's expectations.
The hotel is large, more like a small resort, and made up of at least two large buildings, and it is surrounded by a large park with trees, shrubs and birds which makes it perfect for family vacation. I did not try the pools but many people seemed to be enjoying them.
Staff are generally friendly but it's a pity they speak very little or no English except for the receptions.
The individual guest might feel a little sidelined as the majority of guests come in large groups but there should be some entertaining for them too. For instance, bar area and the veranda feels accommodating for everybody. I also noticed an indoors playground area which makes it suitable for families with little children too.
As I was traveling there for business, I have to admit that the very large conference rooms and the many other meeting rooms were quite good-equipped for different sorts of events and staff was there all the time to help out. Obviously this is a merit of event organizers mostly but not only.
A small note though: when traveling to town, to the Falls, or to/from the airport, make sure you are told the taxi fare upfront otherwise you may end up paying more that you normally would in many European countries for the same distance or travel time.

Room Tip: Rooms in the backyard building are much quieter when compared to those in the main building.

The MABU is a top-class conference hotel, potentially catering in its 600+ rooms for over 1000 delegates. Cannot be faulted as such: the conference faciities, the meeting rooms, audio visual equipments, attention to detail etc are superb, though I would imagine the success of any conference/workshop basically depends on the events organisers themselves. When I was there, 3 major events were runnng simultaneously in the hotel.

The food is Brazilian self-service buffet style (generally tasty and plentiful, including breakfast) served in two or three vast dining halls. Drinks (alcoholic or not) are pretty expensive. The rooms are modern and comfortable, with huge beds and good showers, air conditioning etc. The only thing I felt my room (in the "annex") lacked was an armchair. The staff are friendly and efficient.

I particularly liked the enormous surrounding tropical park, complete with lake, Extremely well cared for. A piece of the surviving Atlantic Forest. I also enjoyed the shallow and warm swimming pools, as well as the sauna facility (the latter remarkably empty of other guests).

On a slightly negative note, I wonder whether this hotel would really suit individual (ie non-conference) foreign travellers, especially those seeking a bit of solitude/peace and quiet etc, or celebrating a special occasion, honeymoon etc. I noted, for example, that the "ordinary" clients were seated in a designated corner of the boisterous dining rooms (nevertheless apparently enjoying themselves). That might not be to everyone´s liking. All in all, if your budget can stretch to it and you seek a modicum of luxury and very tasteful surroundings,I would suggest opting for the Cataratas Tropical Hotel (run by Orient Express) which has the advantage of being almost on top of the Iguassu Falls... presumably your main reason for visiting this part of Brazil.

Room Tip: Rooms in the annex (one minute from reception) are newer and very quiet.
