“Truly 5 Star”
Reviewed 23 May 2012

We stayed at das Cataratas for two nights during our Brazil trip. The hotel has the most amazing location right next to the falls. Since you are inside the park, you can see the falls early in the morning before all the tourists arrive, which makes it a special experience. The hotel itself was flawless from check-in to check-out. The staff spoke all good English and were trained in their respective fields. The hotel was very well mentained and looked spotless.

The breakfast buffet in the morning had everything you can think of and was delicious. We also had dinner in the fine dining restaurant and enjoyed the Brazilien BBQ they offered one night, which again exceeded expectations.

The Wi-Fi was complimentary, which is unfortunately not always common in luxury hotels, so also thumbs up for that. We also enjoyed the pool service with complimentary fruits and little drinks every so often.

The only downside was the size of the room, which was tiny compared to the massive hallways the property had.

Overall this hotel has definitely a place in our top ten.

Having spent the night before in Sheraton on the Argentinean side, we continued our Iguazu adventure with a night in Hotel das Cataratas. The hotel is beautiful. The room is beautifully appointed although it is on the small side.

Spending the extra money to be close to the falls is worth it unless you're planning to actually spend a lot of time in Iguazu. But for us with only a couple of days in the area, it was worth every single penny.

First, you are free to walk the trail while the park isn't open to the public yet. This might not seem like much but trust me, we went there during a period where you wouldn't think there would be as many people but no, it was still chock full of tourists wanting to see the beauty of the falls. And so the extra time you could spend where you have the whole thing to yourself is magnificent.

Second, the staff is great. Communication was not a problem for us (except for some wait staff at the restaurant but that was easily remedied by other wait staff who approached us right away). Even though our flight was leaving at night they allowed us an extra hour in the room and then we were free to stay in the grounds and use the amenities until we left.

So yes, spend the extra dough. For a once in a lifetime experience, you won't regret it.

Excellent hotel inside the Park. You can stroll to the Falls before it opens for the public. Service is excellent and the amenity is exceptional. I was lucky to have a view room that I can see part of the Falls. The hotel staff tried hard to accommodate their guess and the food was also excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel, yes, it is expensive but it is worthy.

If you are traveling to Iguacu Falls, this is the place to stay! The ability to be up close and personal with this incredible wonder of the world before and after the national park is open for the day is truly a special experience. But it doesn't stop there. This is a beautiful hotel with warm inviting staff and a relaxed atmosphere. The rooms are quite comfortable, the pool is a lovely place to relax, the food and service are both top notch. After a few crazed days in Rio, this was one of the highlights of our trip to Brazil.

We stayed here for one night before moving to the Sheraton on the Argentine side for one additional night. Both hotels are the sole properties located in their respective national parks so there are no other choices if you wish to stay within the parks and have easy access to the falls. You are therefore a captive audience! Although das Cataratas is a beautiful property on the whole and the rooms are attractive, its management is milking its location for all it's worth. Our travel agent reserved a standard room and we were therefore not expecting a view of the falls from our window. We learned, however, that most other available "views" are basically worthless. The first room we were shown was on the lower level of the "garden wing" and had a view of the hotel's service entrance. The second room, also in the garden wing, had a "view" of a high mound of grass. The third room (which we ultimately accepted, because "nothing else was available") had a view of the roadway adjoining the property. The garden wing is quite a long walk from the lobby and restaurant and is not really desirable. Perhaps other "views" are available from this wing, but we certainly saw a representative selection. Management is not friendly; in fact, we felt as if we were on the defensive when we requested a better view. Our room was also not ready for occupancy when we arrived at 2 PM, which was supposed to be the official check-in time. The hotel does have a beautiful swimming pool and we thought the dinner buffet was quite good and not too expensive, considering its quality. I would still recommend staying 1 night on each side of the falls, but be prepared for an "attitude" at this hotel. The Sheraton, although not as luxurious, is much friendlier and welcoming and most of the rooms have a straight-on view of the falls.

Room Tip: Even if you don't have a falls view, make sure the view is acceptable.

Dear Guest,

First of all I would like to thank you for sharing your experience with us and other readers.

In deed, the Standard Rooms do not have view to the falls. Most of the rooms in this category have view to the gardens or surrounding of the hotel.

I am sorry yo hear that you felt that the attitude shown your way was not the expected one. this does of course not meet our standard of service, and I can assure you that measures have been taken to prevent this to happen again in the future.

We would be most delighted to have you as our guest again in the future and to correct any negative impression you might have been left with of the Hotel das Cataratas.

Sincerely yours,

went there with a 10 yr old child in April. The rooms are well kept and mixing high tech with very traditional furniture etc. Pool area great.Location is truly unique. Excellent staff. Only negative point is, like all restaurants in Brazil thanks to taxes, the wine is expensive.
went to the Sheraton on the Argentinian side - very 1980s efficient but no soul, not remotely comparable..

Room Tip: spend the most your bufdget can handle for larger rooms
