Belmond Hotel das Cataratas

Spent 2 nights at Das Cataratas during visit to Brazil. The Iguacu Falls are spectacular and no better way to experience them than from this hotel which is situated 100mtrs from the falls and 11km inside the National Park. During the day there are many visitors, but outside the Park's opening hours, residents have free access to view the falls at their leisure. For us this included an organised midnight walk to view the lunar rainbow.
Hotel is colonial-style. Well finished with a great pool area. Basic rooms are small - ours was a 'superior' room in the Tower Wing (which means at the back of the hotel). Expect to pay a hefty premium for falls-view.
Breakfast is buffet-style as is the evening BBQ meal in the restaurant by the pool. There is also an upscale restaurant. Food is OK rather than spectacular. Service by the pool and in the bar/terrace in the evening - was excellent.
A hugely memorable stay - but for the falls rather than the hotel. Expensive and not the best Orient-Express hotel we've stayed in, but you can't fault the magnificent location.

Room Tip: If you wish to view the falls from your bedroom, then you'll have to open your wallet wide!

What a wonderful views we had from this "exclusive comfort" hotel perfectly located in the heart of the park including the impressive outlooks and closest paths on Foz de Iguacu Falls!!
In the CATARAS all is a 5* stars quality: perfect welcoming hall and reception, excellently relaxing large rooms and cleanest bathroom.
Great 'buffet' breakfast for all the needs and tastes (; we also had a good experience with the restaurant 'a la carte'.
Excellent!

The hotel has unbelievable view on the waterfalls. Service is excellent, the big pool has a good bar, there is a spa there, too. We tried 2 hotel restaurants, both are really good. One is near the pool and the buffet there is just excellent. The other is more sophisticated place with a nice view (though I liked the meal at the first one more), and I recommend to make a reservation there in advance for the time of sunset.
There is a free hotel shuttle to the Birds park (departures are every 20 min). If you want to see toucans, eagles, etc. - don't miss!
The hotel is very good and 100% worth the money you pay

Absolutely stunning location - its like having your own personal, private access to the Falls! The hotel itself and surroundings is fantastic - beautifully designed and always immaculately clean. Staff were extremely attentive, very polite and couldn't do enough to assist. Can highly recommend the Spa massages - well worth the cost as it was one of the best massages ive had and the therapist was lovely and really put you at ease. Breakfast was very good, lots of variety - albeit the service was a tad slow at busy times and the waiters forgetful. Two things impacted the experience for me - 1) woodern floors in the bedrooms. Although beautiful to look at, they amplify the noise tremendously which resulted in lack of sleep - doors slamming, babies crying, floors being polished in the rooms above. 2) Children. While I appreciate this is not an adults only hotel, it was a bit much when you're trying to relax by the pool, enjoy a leisurely breakfast or evening meal to have kids running around, shouting and generally creating a racket. Perhaps some kind of kids club/area would help. A great stay, but expected a bit more for the price you pay.

Room Tip: Do any rooms not have wooden floors??!!

We loved the waterfalls and the breakfast. The rooms are a bit tight on space and no king beds, but great staff. Breakfast buffet with champagne is a treat! Toucans, coatimundi and capabaras roam freely. The only hotel inside the Iguassu Falls national park, it is on the Brazilian side.

Stayed here as part of a group and found hte hotel location to be brilliant. Rooms were very good and we could not fault the meals we ate there. Buffet style but there was a very large choice and no one could possibly complain at the options available. Walk across the road to a path that leads down to the Brazilian side of the falls which was simply breathtaking. Takes about 20 minutes to walk depending on how many times you stop to look at the views along the way.

Having the falls just outside the front door is absolutely priceless. A really beautiful spot, comfortable, luxurious hotel and very helpful (although occasionally slightly over attentive) staff. We stayed three nights as a treat at the end of our holiday and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Iguacu. The food in the restaurants is not cheap but you do get what you pay for. Make sure you have the buffet - it was really fabulous.
We were there during a full moon and walked along the falls trail late at night, the moonlight catching the spray caused a lunar rainbow which is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
Just go. You won't regret it!
