“Poor localization and old rooms”
Reviewed 23 May 2013

My first time here, and will never come back again. Rooms are medium size, but with very old furniture. The smell of the room was awful... very very bad!
The localization is near a highway, but with nothing close by, just industries. You will need taxi or car to go to Foz downtown or Puerto Iguazu.
Price is moderate.
The staff was very polite and quick with the check-in.

Hotel is ok, some rooms renovated, others not. Food is nice, well decorated and fresh. But beware of beds, we had a group of 6 people, 3 different rooms, and 4 of us were bitten by bedbugs. They were crawling everywhere on the floors, and as hotel does not use hoovers (just manual sweepers), the population seems to be exploding. It was a painful flight back to europe, and now, 2 weeks after, legs are still full of marks.
I recommend taking some repellets with you!
Apart from that, nice experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room, and check under bed near legs for black spots, sure sings of bug infestati...

This is the second time I stay in Rafain Palace to attend a meeting. The hotel is very good, rooms are very comfortable, big, great bed and very good bathroom. The swimming pool is very good, and it has a beautiful yard full of trees just next to it. Everything in Iguaçu falls is far from each other, so be ready to take a cab to go everywhere. Rafain palace is on a main road that crosses the city. It's far from Iguaçu national Park and the Bird Park, but the same for all other hotels, except the one that is inside the park.
So, rafain palace is a good option because in Iguaçu you have to take a taxi for everything as I said. Buffet breakfast is very good, and included in the rate as it is in every Brazilian hotel. Very godd variety of fruits, cheeses, cereals, pastries, eggs and breads. Lots of different kind of breads because the owner of the hotel also owns the best bakery in town. Lunch is also good. The sataff is very helpful. Remember that the hotel is just on the side of the road, so it's not quiet despite the double glazed window. This was only thing I didn't like about the hotel. In 2001 my room faced the pool and it was much better.
Don't miss Iguaçu National Park (of course!) and take Macuco Safari: it includes a ride in a samll car through the forest of the National park, then you can walk with a guide (or continue by car) until you get to Iguaçu river. Then you take a motor boat and prepare yourself for a lot of fun when the boat gos straight to the falls and you get pretty close to them!!! Yo'll get soaked! The bird Park is also beautiful because the birds are free and all kind of exotic birds get really close to you. If you want to have a nice dinner, take a cab to Puerto Iguaçu in Argentina (40 min ride). We had dinner in Aqva. Great restaurant! great meat! try the Ojo de Bife (Ribeye steak) wih potatoes stuffed with mashed dried tomatoes and cheese. Wonderful and cheap (~U$ 20.00).

Why would you stay here?
1) The hotel was booked by a travel agent and you didn't have any control
2) You are attending a meeting at the attached convention centre
3) You need a place to stay that is near the freeway heading out of town, on the opposite end of the city from the airport.

I think the reviews are pretty accurate, but several things are worth amplifying
1) Bathroom/toilet/noise: This was quite amazing. There is only a very thin membrane for a ceiling in the bathroom. From a sound perspective there is the same privacy as in a public toilet. You can even hear the tissue paper tearing and wiping sounds. I kept having the feeling that someone was in the room with me. There was lots of water pressure in the shower, but the shower head was very old and corroded. Cleanliness was OK, but the lighting was terrible. For example, the light was actually behind you (a bare fluorescent tube) when you were over the sink. Not great for shaving. Amenities were the basics, soap and shampoo; there was no facial tissue or wash cloths.

2) The room: spacious and tiled, with a desk to work at, although the chairs were pretty low. WiFi was pretty good, but had to be purchased. The price was not outrageous. Very basic amenities - no clock, no tea or coffee. There was a minibar with a pretty noisy compressor. Bed was hard, but they did have a selection of pillows, which was a bonus. There was a new LG flat-panel TV. Room could use a paint job.

3) Location: Terrible. Along a freeway, in an industrial area. There is no where that one would want to walk, and no sign of restaurants, for example, although the food in the hotel is decent.

4) Gym: Basic free weights, a couple of tread mills, and a stair stepper, but the room was nice, but not very private, so hopefully you are OK with people watching you sweat.

5) Pool: round. good for kids, but not conducive to swimming laps.

6) Breakfast was very good. Lots of selection. Lunch was also a buffet, but was also good. Selection was not large, but it was good.

7) Unlike some others, I found the staff to be friendly, and English at the front desk to be adequate.

8) The tour desk is really a concierge. They can make recommendations for restaurants and can even arrange a car to pick you up.

Room Tip: Good luck! Avoid room next to people with babies at all costs (unless you have a baby of your own).

Good: the rooms are very spacious, staff is friendly, food is good.
The hotel is a bit run down and located in an area far from everything. But the worst is the noise. Children and adults running and just talking really loud in the corridors, every time someone slams a door you can hear loud and clear inside the room, the same way every time someone flushes you also wake up.
The tour desk at the hotel lobby is very good.

We stayed 2 nights on a tour. Perfect for this type of visit probably a little basic if looking for a longer break. Not near restaurants or shops but hotel restaurant offered good food.

Decent hotel, but not at par with the price. You pay way too much for what you get. Bar, breakfast and buffet dinner are the saving grace.
Front office staff speak really poor English, which makes communIcarion a difficult task. Wifi is not free. Rooms are just about ok. The bathroom kind if smelled. To top it all, they did something wrong with my bill, and later sent me an email about it. I found it particularly unprofessional. Probably won't stay here again.
