“Well worn”
Reviewed 16 March 2009

This hotel is well away from the Falls - which are spectacular and unforgettable - I would think about half an hour's ride, in fact. If I were visiting again, I would certainly choose another hotel, as this is pretty well worn. The bathrooms are grim and the rooms are small and a bit 'damp' smelling - in fact our friends had to ask for a room change ,as their bathroom was very smelly! The food and breakfasts are good, but I think it would be worth paying a bit more for a newer hotel nearer Iguassu. Afterall, it's a 'once in a lifetime' trip and here you end up paying out on transport to the Falls, or even into town.

The hotel itself was very nice. The included breakfast buffet was wonderful. The dinner buffet was also good. The first night we ordered from the menu and it was awful. The hotel also only has two levels of tour. One is to use the local bus system and do it yourself. The other is expensive, to rent a car and driver. They do not book any bus or minibus tours. If we return to Foz de Iguacu, we would like to stay somewhere closer to town. There was no shopping or restaurants (outside of the hotel) within walking distance. There was only one shop in the hotel and the main dining room and the poolside bar, which has snack food.

I stayed at this Hotel when I was studying abroad in Brazil. I visited many places when I was there...Rio de Janerio, Sao Paulo, Botucatu, Recife, Ponta Grossa...etc...and this was the most memorable hotel I stayed in. I loved it. The staff was friendly and helpful. My room was absolutely wonderful. A lot nicer than the pictures I see posted on this site. Great breakfast and the restaurant was pretty inexpensive for dinner too. We went to the Bird Park too and it was wonderful but the Falls were the best. Better than Niagra! I saw both sides and took the boat ride under the falls. It was very cold when I was there because it was in the winter time but it was still a great experience. Most people think of Rio or Sao Paulo but this is a place that you have to see. I booked it through a friend who is a Brazillian travel agent and we got an exceptional price. My recommendation is to always book things through local travel agents. I split the room with another person and we only paid $27 american dollars per night!

Our tour group stayed at the Rafain Palace when we visited Iguasu Falls. The hotel has a beautiful lobby, attractive oudoor lounging areas and a medium-sized swimming pool.

Free coffee and tea are available in the lobby and entrance to the dining room at all times, along with tiny cups. The coffee came with or without sugar, but all the tea was sweetened, unfortunately.

Our room, was very small and was home to a colony of ants. (I noticed that another reviewer also encountered them in his/her room, so this seems to be an ongoing problem.) The pillows were flat, but, at least there were enough of them to double up..

The buffet breakfast was quite nice with a wide variety of offerings..

I stayed at this hotel for 12 days in February 2006. There are several reasons to stay here. This hotel is spotless. The Security is great, The Breakfast buffet in the morning is FREE and not the usual "continental" breakfast -- a very large selection to choose from. At the pool you can relax and watch the Toucan birds feed on a perch above along with other giant parrots on the property. Food and Drink available pool side with wait staff on hand. Within the hotel you will find a company "Central Tours", Raoul is the manager with a very capable staff of drivers of private autos or buses. He even arranged for a local fishing trip for me. I never took a taxi because Central Tours was so inexpensive. If you want a restaurant in town they will steer you towards the better ones depending on what you want. Raoul was in the restaurant and hospitality business for over 20 years before going into the tour business. I was attending a conference and the hotel has internet access in every room. They have a TECH on site to configure your computer, only took 5 minutes and was secure. Some of our attendees forgot materials or needed copies etc and most was handled onsite with the rest handled in town -- all arranged through the hotel or Raoul. About Iquazu Falls -- not to be missed -- I went to both sides -- Brazil and Argentina -- you should see BOTH !! I have traveled quite extensively and had a totally good experience here.

Great hotel!
We spent there 3 days before Christmas Holidays. Our room was a good sized room for 3 persons, looking to the pools, without balcony.
There is a good restaurant in the hotel, where you can have your meals for acceptable prices. You can choose from lots of fine foods or you can choose the menu – for fix price, in which you can eat as much as you like. The breakfast was excellent.
The staff was kind and polite all the times.
The hotel is a little bit out the town, but you can take a bus to go to the centre and from there to the National Park or to the Itaipu Dam. If the hotel would be in the centre, you should also have to take a bus to go to the Falls….!
You can find everything in the hotel and in it’s area (pools, jacuzzi, climbing wall, tennis courts, soccer field, gym and a large forest) to spend your time – if you have any free time after the falls, dam, after a long daily trip!

Have a nice time there!

The Rafain is situated outside of Foz, with the city in between it and the Falls. This is the main drawback to the hotel – its location. We took a local bus to the bird sanctuary without any problems. We could have also returned to the Falls on local bus – it is cheap, clean and safe during the day. We visited the town and we were glad we were at the Rafain. The restaurant in the hotel is reasonable and the food is good. Breakfast is excellent. The pool area is well appointed and very pleasant. The room was of moderate size and very clean. Apart from a marching line of ants on the desk top the room was fine. We would probably though suggest a hotel in between the falls and the city. It would have been more convenient.
