“Very helpful staff, pleasant public areas , rooms to Travellodge standard but a bit tired.”
Reviewed 6 May 2010

My wife and I , late fifties, English, tourists, no portuguese, stayed for four days to see the falls. Some reception staff speak English. Waiter Ederico, took us under his wing meal-times and looked after us explaining everything we needed to know in English. Very kind and helpful. The most proffessional waiter you've ever been served by!

Food and booze great. Great value, buffet style. Help yourself to food. Wine & drinks served at table and plate clearing service prompt and attentive.

Public areas attractive and clean. Rooms a bit old fashioned but perfectly clean. New towels whenever you need 'em. Maid service every day.

Big plus is the outstanding attention from every member of staff. Thanks guys, we had a great time.

Do yerself a favour. Forget taxis & use the bus. It's one stop (towards the cataratas) from the Airport to the hotel and costs 2.3 reais ( about 60p ) each. A taxi cost us 17 reais plus tip for a three minute ride!

The bus runs from Foz centre to the falls park and back all day long and costs 2.3 reais no matter how far you go. Bus stop is just outside the hotel. Ask at reception. Better still, leave reception , turn left and walk to the falls. The park entrance is about twenty minutes walk.

We caught the bus toward Foz one day. Got off just outside Foz and caught the Argentina bus. Easy to spot, it says 'Argentina' on the destination plate! Drops you at the border. Walk through border control (take yer passport) change some money to Argentine Pesetas ( we changed £400 reais for the day. It was plenty.) and catch the bus to 'Terminal'. Once at Terminal ( about 15-20 minutes) get a ticket from the ticket office to Iguazu cataratas. You get to the falls in about half an hour. Again, ask about it at reception.

Never thought I would go on a day trip to Argentina.

A great evenings entertainment is to be had at the Rafain Show in Foz. brilliant display of music and dance from all countries of South America. Tango from Argentina, Hat dance from mexico, pan pipes from Peru, got the idea? Fantastic show ,Bit like a family circus troupe , you keep seeing the same faces popping up on stage throughout the evening. Stick your tongue in your cheek, join in, it's brilliant fun! First you get a big fat churasco dinner .Great value for money . They can fix you a trip at one of the tourism desks in reception. Whole thing , dinner, show and transport both ways was about 80 Reais each. ( £20/25 ?) plus drinks. Even then I was pleasantly surprised, our two or three beers cost next to nothing.

We were so well looked after by everyone we met. Thanks everyone.

Thanks for your comments Mr.

It is with great pleasure that we receive their compliments. We thank you for your stay in our hotel and say that in his next visit to Brazil we will be glad to accommodate you again. Make yourself at home with us.

Now to make it easier for foreign tourists and we have a Brazilian travel agency in the hotel reception. There, tour packages and information about the falls can be solved.

We appreciate your compliments again and having something that we can help do not hesitate to contact us.

Best Regards

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights during a conference and paid approximately US$65 per night. This hotel is located quite close to the airport and the Falls, but it is quite a ride (approx R$30-40 by taxi) from downtown. The hotel lobby is very nice and clean.

Computers with Internet access as well as wireless Internet access is available for free in the hotel lobby. Wireless reaches into some of the rooms, but not all. The staff are friendly and professional, although few speak English fluently. Spanish or Portuguese did not seem to be a problem. A hotel shuttle is available wherever you wish to go.

The rooms are a bit sparse. The rooms are as they appear on the website: http://www.colonialhotel.com.br/us.htm My room had a double bed, a single bed, a countertop with refrigerator and a television. The double bed mattress was firm but comfortable. The television only had basic cable with no English stations (don't look for CNN or anything). The room was quite clean. The air conditioning worked very well. The bathroom was also very sparse and old, with a sink, toilet, bedet and stand-up shower.

I did not attend the restaurant, exercise room or pool. I understand from friends that these are all fine. The restaurant is apparently quite good with a reasonably-priced (R$15) lunch buffet.

In summary, this hotel is worth the low cost, but don't expect much luxury. I would recommend it if you wish to be close to the falls, but it's a bit far from downtown or the conference hotels (Mabu and Bourbon).

Sir, we are happy that Mr've enjoyed your stay in our hotel.

Some issues that raised have been solved Sr and some we have been implementing at the hotel. As an example, our front office staff already has mostly fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese. This improvement in training is the way we found to offer our guests services and information with more quality.

Another major change has been noticed in the apartments. We now have renovated apartments with new furniture, LCD television with over 18 cable channels (including news channels in English and Spanish), renovated bathrooms with luxury shower. If it becomes more convenient can check our website photos of the suites after the reforms.

Thanks again for your comments and would like to inform you that every suggestion of our guests is always considered very carefully by us. And as soon as possible we are implementing and improving our service.

On your next visit to Brazil, stay with us on Harbor Hotels.

Best Regards

the hotel front is very inviting but the service and the rooms are well below standard.
very uncomfortable beds, dreadful air conditioning, tiny shower room and overworked staff who were not really sure what they were doing.
breakfast was a real bun fight
the pool was by a busy road but looked nice
if you can afford it stay at the shereton

We stayed in Colonial for 2 nights during Brazilian summer. It was a very nice experience. The hotel is clean and has a pleasant swimming pool. It's not very close to the center of Foz do Iguacu, but it is well linked, even during the night.
