“Sub tropical location, Baltic level Air Con”
Reviewed 19 November 2009

We stayed at the Bourbon for 3 nights whilst visiting the National Park and Falls. This hotel has just been refurbished and they have done a lovely job, reception and ground floor areas are lovely and the rooms are excellent. The air con was freezing though! we kept turning it down but we always seemed to be too cold, just couldn't get a comfortable temperature, if you turn it off however its way too warm...but hey you don't spend your holiday in your room. The food was lovely, nice buffet breakfast and we ate in the Italian restaurant each night. The bar and pool bar do good snacks too. Staff were very helpful both reception, porters, business centre etc and the room was kept spotless. The Park and the Falls are amazing, its worth taking the time to visit from the Argentinian side as its a totally different experience. Crossing the Argentinian border was a bit tedious, took ages, despite us making an effort to turn up early (8.30am) it was quite quiet when we got there but nothing seemed to be getting through and within 15 mins its was really busy! We waited for a about 45 mins in the end but its worth it as the Falls are a great experience. If you don't mind getting wet go on the Jet boat ...thrilling!

We were happy with hotel overall, but the location was another thing; there is nothing to see or visit close by. When we were not in a tour, we had to stay at the hotel.

A very nicely built resort-hotel, great rooms, great swimming pool area, beautiful garden/forest/plantation, good restaurant (make sure you taste the wine first - their selection seems to be quite random, but they don't mind if you refuse it). Interior design is interesting, with lots of plants and slightly kitschy small statues.
Staff very friendly (not so surprising for Brasil), everything is possible everything can be arranged just say your room number. They make great caipirinhas. Food is also tasty and varied.
Really- i can't think of anything that i didn't like there (stayed there for 8 days).

Oh, and if you have some spare time to visit the waterfalls :) take the helicopter tour as well!

The hotel is nice and the staff was friendly. Our package included breakfast and dinner...a nice option as there are not many nice restaurants located close to the falls. The food was very good. My only complaint would be that the hotel does not have any irons available so make sure you take clothes that won't wrinkle! Also, the fitness center is very small and can be cramped if there are more than 6 people using the facility. Very nice pool and grounds. Only 10 minutes from the airport.

We didn't plan to stay in this hotel as pictures/descriptions were not optimistic, anyway, we thought, we needed a place to sleep just for some nights. This place was the next in our trip after Rio with its Sofitel. And being unbelievably cheaper (in Sofitel we stayed during New Year days, so it costed about $2000 per room) Bourbon seemed MUCH better. Yes, there are no views when you have breakfast. And breakfast itself was average. But rooms were much bigger, renovation seemed better. There are some strange things like safe-box (when you need to ask for keys and locks), but it is not a problem, just very funny. The only disadvantage was shower, anyway, it is not important for everyone. The shower is fixed on the wall. Guess, for women with long hairs this cheap version of shower is real disaster. The service stuff was nice, no problems with bars and restaurants.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights as part of a large tour group while visiting Iguassu Falls and general area sightseeing. On arrival, I was assigned to a room in the high rise building which was very clean, had a large safe and was very comfortable. The room overlooked the pool area and the surrounding jungle with spectacular vistas.

The entrance to the hotel is through the older two level area of the building. When we are walking into the hotel from the parking lot, I heard a lot of noise coming from renovation of the lower level rooms but could not hear any renovation noise from my room or elsewhere inside the hotel. The lobby area has a large lounge and the soft seating is very comfy. Internet access was good in the business center.

I was awakened about five a.m. by an incredible series of lightning displays in the area of the hotel. Each flash allowed fully visibility of the surrounding areas, the tree canopy, before suddenly becoming dark again. I attempted to photograph the displays but was unable to push the shutter in time or anticipate the extremely close flashes. As a note, the hotel windows have a small button switch that turns off the a/c when opened so if you choose to open the windows, you will need to "deal" with the button if you want the room to stay cool.

The hotel elevators in the high rise are outside and offer an exceptional view of the surrounding area. The grounds, to include the expansive pool area (with a children's pool/play area away from the adult pool), are well landscaped.

The only negative during my time there was the slow service in the bar area. The breakfast buffet was average. While the safe was large, the system was a bit funky as in outdated. The key and lock are available from the front desk upon request and completion of a form.

Of course, staying at any hotel in the Iguassu/Iguaçu Falls area is only a means to an end, visiting "The Falls".

  • Liked — Excellent setting.
  • Disliked — Slow bar service.
