Excellent hotel/resort in a very quit and exotic surrounding. You feel really that every person working there is really concerned about your well being. If you're a person who only want to rest, sleep, eat, drink and sunbath excellent but also if you are activ they have many things to do for every age. Nearby is a small fishing village with good infrastructure for shopping and eating. Breakfast and dinner is included in their diary and has unbelievable much items which you can't eat all at a time. Once you 've been there I'm sure you feel the same as we: we want to go back !!!

Stayed 3 years ago with family and enjoyed one our best holidays ever, however, got shocked with how the hotel has gone down so quickly - service never work, but people very smily!! from check in to any request, was always everything late or never happened. Cleaness was the worst piece with dirty pools and social areas. Rooms are great, resort well spoted and kids love it, but cannot recommend as I did in the past. Prefer Nannai that is next door and MUCH better (confirmed by all locals).

Summerville is not easy to get to, and for folks not used to rural roads - it can be rather jarring. From Recife it was a 1 hour ride in a shuttle. There were some rough roads- but at least there were no donkeys to dodge (like my exerience in Cairo!).

The resort looks very lovely, the pools are striking. The rooms are rather plain, but the goal is to keep you outside enjoying the resort. Like many places near the beach and so close to the equator - nothing ever gets really totally dry -- so the rooms were musty and dampish. We kept the AC on - not so much for the heat (yes it was very sultry) as it was for the drying effect.

We had a suite, but they really dont want you to do anything in the kitchen - so it was weird to have cabinetry, a microwave and a fridge, but not a single utensil, or dish, just a glass in the bathroom. I was praying for a rug by the bedside - all the floors are tiled, which is ok, but it results in lots of sand in the bed.

Overall, the facility is showing its age. There are cracked surfaces, a bit of peeling paint here and there -- not overwhelming - but I suspect it will be due for a refurb in the next few years. I loved the balcony and loved the hammock on the porch. That was a really special touch. A bit too hot to stay in the hammock too long, but it was really nice.

The food was about a B-. The first two days it was impressive - looking. But, after a while, it started just looking tired and the same over and over again. If you are just there for 3-4 days, maybe not an issue, but by breakfast on day 4 I was begging my husband to take me somewhere else to eat. You are pretty much trapped there - it costs about 20 R to get a cab into town - otherwise it is really all about lounging around the pool. Lots of kids.

The beach was ok for walking, but you really (I mean really) cannot go swimming unless you walk about 200 yards to the left to another resort beach (or sliver of beach, I should say). There is heavy rock and coral in front of the hotel.

We did got into town Porto De Ghalinas several times and enjoyed that. It is worth the 10R to take the little boats out to the tidal pools on the outer reef - but in reality, once you get out there - they herd you around like you have never seen a fish before - then in 45 minutes hustle you back to the boat. That was when we discovered that the water is so shallow and clear, that you can just swim off the beach to the reef (actually, just walk to the reef from the beach as the water is shallow) and snorkle to your hearts content..

We had a blast sitting on that beach too. The vendors can get a little annoying - but I have to tell you that I had a pina colada that was a classic/genuine - like I have never tasted before. The guy whacked off the top of a pineapple, cored it (and gave us the fruit on a plate to eat) then took coco milk and rum - OMG. Now THAT was a pina colada!!!!! Do not miss having one. I also had a coconut with a straw in it and then the machete man came and cut it in half, fashioned a spoon out of the hull, and I ate the inside when I was done drinking the coconut water. For someone not used to the tourist experience in that part of Brazil - it was very cool.

Anyway, I would go back to the region - but I would only stay a few days at the Summerville - then move on to somewhere in town - or in Recife - or further North. I was also irritte by the fact tha tthey have no irons or facilities for washing clothes. That forced me into spending 40US on laundry services. I dont like that! I did like the free wireless. It worked really well.

This hotel is not a five star hotel, it is too expensive for its price. We have other options around much better, the room was not clear enough, some times the room service missed my room and the air conditioning was not working properly. It was supposed to be a amazing hotel if it was cheapper, I belive its price is too high for a not more than 4 stars hotel.

This is probably one of the best resorts in Brazil. Great staff, large and clean rooms, excellent food. Have also a big gym, tennis courts and large pools.

The worst part is the beach, since you can´t get into because of the large barrier of corals alongside. If there was a good beach there, this could be the best definition of paradise.

We stayed in June, low season and the hotel wasn´t too crowded. This also helped. Probably I wouldn´t stay in high season....

Large but very nice hotel. Friendly staff. Good quality bungalows. Booked via a charter operator with flights included. Price included breakfast and dinner. Good quality food but Porto village was often nice for variation. Nice long beach with the point 2 km South being the most swimming friendly. Good snorkling at low tide in Porto village too.
