“Nice place to stay!”
Reviewed 23 March 2009

Very nice breakfast, large rooms and beautiful pool! The problem is the noisy. The hotel is located in downtown Buzios, and next to some bars which makes high noisy. Ask for the two hundreads apartments. The three hundreads are noisy!

Beautiful small hotel that has all the right ingredients for a romantic getaway. Pérola is the best hotel in Buzios and I'm going back this summer (January). This is a trendy boutique hotel that stands right in front of a local groceries, but remember that this is Brasil. Actually, that is one of the reasons why Pérola is so special.: after you get in, you completely forget its surroundings. It's true that there is nobeach to go with it, but you'll find yourself addicted to the pool. Incredible caipirinhas and kiwi scented fresh towels that the lifeguard brings around when the sun is too hot are some of the treats you'll get used to.
Rooms are okay when compared to the trendy boutique hotels here in Europe, but a million times better than anything you'll find on many of the hotels in Brasil (except for some hidden treasures in Baía and the fabulous Fasano in Rio).
The only problem with Pérola was having the personal trainers on the adjacent workout/gym facility pump up the volume for their 7am clients. The problem was sorted once the complaint was made with Fernanda and João at the front desk.
Apart from this, and the fact that food was somewhat disapointing (and expensive), there is little that my girlfriend and I did not enjoy at Pérola.
Not being a beach hotel did not bother us, as you can easily pick a waterscooter to reach any of the closeby beaches (Tartaruga is the best), and walking down to Rua das Pedras takes you 3 minutes, and from there to João Pessoa about 20 min walk.Lots of restaurants in Rua das Pedras and shops facing the beach, but my heart fell for the tiny restaurants at the end of Orla Bardot: no international cuisine there, just simple and tasty traditional dishes with lots of colour and seafood.
Go there, enjoy, put a smile on your face and you'll be treated as a family member.

  • Liked — Architecture, ambience, close to beaches and restaurants, safety
  • Disliked — Food (not terrible, but something that should be improved to be on the same level as eveything else)

We loved the pool area and the excelent service. And you'll be a short walk from 'Rua das Pedras', the best place to go. OK! It's not perfect because it's not beach front. But Azeda, the best beach, is easily accessible by an acquatic taxi. You'll find a lot of them just at the end of 'Rua das Pedras'. Be aware: don't go to Cabo Frio! It's a dangerous place. Think twice: it's much safer staying at the hotel's gym.

  • Liked — The great view of the pool area
  • Disliked — The noisy generator

Located in the heart of Buzios (El Centro), this beautifully designed and decorated hotel serves as a great base during your stay in Buzios. You can walk to the center and on to the marina and visit all the clubs, restaurants and shops the city offers and everyone enjoys in the evening by foot. Thankfully, the main streets are closed to cars in the evenings, thereby allowing all to enjoy without fear of getting hit by a car.

The hotel is decorated in a contemporary/beachy/open-air/clean & uncluttered design with a touch of Balinese accents. You will spend hours on the high-rise day beds by the pool, laying on the pool chairs located in the actual pool or in their fantastic gym. The rooms are beautifully decorated as well and quite spacious.

The staff are all young, efficient and very friendly. They are great with restaurant recommendations, directions and genuinely want to do a good job. They try to never say no.

The property is not located on the beach itself, something that at first bugged me. Then the reality of where I was hit me: a peninsula 3 hrs drive, northeast of Rio that is famous for it's 23 widely varied beaches. Hello! I strongly recommend you do what we did: rent a car or better, one of the beach buggies everyone rents and hit a different beach every day.

Another option is the hotel's Beach House that is open on weekends for hotel guests only. For R$80 (per person, each visit but all day long) they provide a hotel shuttle to and from a BREATHTAKING house on the beach. The house is stunning with a pool that goes throughout the entire house, a massage room and a room you can rent for the day if you want to nap or are not feeling well. It has a bar, living room with huge plasma and great music pumping throughout the house. A hardworking staff (Ana is a doll) that do not want you to lift a finger and a great, beachside menu. I recommend your spending one whole day there.

The negatives I can point out about the hotel are that I do wish they would have an evening turn-down service, not be so cheap with the amount of towels you get and add a heater to the jacuzzi. But otherwise, it was a great hotel!

  • Liked — Design, great food, excellent location and comfy rooms
  • Disliked — Not on the beach, no evening turn-down service & they should have Ipod stations
