“Perfect weekend retreat”
Reviewed 22 August 2012

I've been to this hotel couple of times and never got disapointed.
This is not a cheap hotel, quite expensive but it worth every penny.
The hotel is not over crowded, its exclusive hotel.
Its facilities are amazing and the pool facing Ferradura bay is perfect.
My wife and I loved to have our breakfast served at the pool with the scenic bay view.
The rooms are amazing and have beautiful view to the bay, not sure if all of them have balconies but I always request one with balcony and jacuzzi.
Love Buzios e this hotel is definetly my number 1 of choice.

Great stay, excellent views, fine hotel and the friendliest people. Enjoyed the food and the services (kayak, steam room, hot tub). Walkable distance to downtown Buzios.

We traveled to Buzios last month with our two children (ages 1 and 6). Not speaking any Portuguese it was a challenge to figure out how exactly to plan our trip. When we did our research, we discovered that many of the pousadas in Buzios, like hotels in Rio, had decidedly mixed reviews on Tripadvisors, usually a bad sign. When we found this place online, it was particularly difficult to decide what to do as the hotel’s website was limited in its English information, it looked a little far from town, it was clear that the deposit was non-refundable and there was only 1 tripadvisor review. However, we called the hotel and Valter at the front desk helped us with the reservation and we decided to take a chance. It paid off. This was a very good hotel, clearly one of the nicest places in Buzios.

The Ferradura bay is very quiet and a nice place for swimming with kids. The hotel’s pool deck is absolutely gorgeous – really one of the prettiest I’ve seen anywhere. They’ve built it over a cliff and wrapped it around a natural cleft in the rocks with a tiny sandy beach in it. Our kids loved exploring the rocks or taking the free kayaks out into the bay. The pools also has two calf-deep areas that are perfect for tiny children. One has lounge chairs set up in it so you can lay in the sun while the kids splash right next to you, a real plus. Finally, the entire deck is surrounded by a glass wall so that there is no danger of little ones falling off, and the view is unobstructed as well.

The hotel is a little far from town but taxis can be quickly called and, compared to renting a car and paying for parking, are actually a bargain. The rooms are very comfortable and spotlessly clean. All rooms, as far as we could tell, have the same beautiful view and nice balconies on which to relax above the pool. The hotel is a little dated in its furnishing and artwork – sort of stuck in the 70s. Nevertheless, it’s quite charming. The staff is also very, very helpful and they often went out of their way to assist us. In one example, to help us get back to Rio on a tight schedule, Valter ran into town for us and exchanged our bus tickets while we packed, saving us both time and the cost of a taxi two ways.

One thing that does need some improvement is the food. Breakfast was OK, not spectacular. We had a couple of lunches that were also just OK, and on that basis decided to skip dinner. With so many terrific options in the town, at all price levels, this was a good idea. For $500/night, this hotel should be able to do better on the meals.

While on the cost issue, it is worth noting that this place is definitely not cheap. You are paying dearly for a view and total peace and quiet. If you want to party, you’re better off staying in one of the many pousadas close to the centro. However, with young kids that was not what we wanted.

Overall we would recommend this hotel. It is close enough to everything you want to do in Buzios, yet far enough away from the centro to the quiet and relaxing. It is expensive, but so is everything else in Brazil these days. Buzios is a great little beach town with lots of good places to eat, great shopping and plenty of beaches to keep you busy. We can recommend Bravas for a more natural beach and Jao Fernandez for more Euro-style, with lots of chairs and umbrellas for rent, places to eat and gentle waves.

We stayed for six nights after travelling from Beunas Aires [Craft Hotel],Igazu[the Sheraton], Rio [Santa Teresa hotel] Paraty [Eliconial pousada]and heading back to Rio again[Ipanema Plaza].This gives you an idea of where we like to stay and the quality.Ferradura does not disappoint. The outside pool area has big comfy beds, great views and a pool[unheated],sauna and jacuzzi.Very easy to relax here and with a lovely breeze. We borrowed the hotels free kayaks to visit a deserted beach nearby.
Breakfast has everything you need in abundance- fruit, cereals, breads and pastries, yoghurts, cakes and even a small bottle of champagne each day- Perfect.
The rooms on first appearance are slightly dated but then you really warm to them. Our room had a perfect balcony area, the bathroom has a separate shower and jacuzzi bath, mini bar with reasonable prices, safe and tv.You can also use all the facilities at the nearby sister property Ferradura resort.
We only ate at the hotel on the night we arrived and the food was perfectly acceptable but it is not a destination restaurant and there are loads of choices in town.
This is a great place to stay and I am surprised it is so difficult to find information on it.It most certainly is a hotel and not a b and b or inn
