The Hostel is very beautiful and lies close to the rua das pedras, the very beautiful and touristic street in the center of búzios.
Its clean and the rooms have working air conditioner. Also with a little luck you'll get a room with balcony with a wonderful view. Our beds didn't have a ladder which makes it pretty difficult to get into the upper beds.
Also, we were really disappointed by the (Spanish-speaking) staff who could with one exception speak only very poor to no English. Maybe it was the language difficulty but they didn't let us even make a for us very important phone call. At 9 pm they told us to go to the city to get a phone card to make a call outside at a phone booth to another Hostel we needed to contact. We didn't even ask for the bus to Rio, they would not have understood this either.
By a comment on this page we found out about the breakfast at 8 and it seemed to us, that the staff was actually more busy with their own stuff (and the stuff of the mostly Argentinian visitors).
After two nights we're leaving and looking forward to other Hostel where we feel welcome and comfortable.

This was a great hostel overall. The price was good considering how expensive the city of Buzios is. In general, Yellow Stripe was extremely clean, bathrooms, floors, beds, showers etc, although the cupboards next to the bed were filthy and the lockers could have used a cleaning. They also had a problem with ants. I had a candy bar in a wrapper in a bag and put it in my locker and by morning my entire locker was filled with ants. It would have been nice to have a warning about that! Additionally, when I checked in, they recommended I get bug spray because of the mosquitoes which come out at sunset. My room had a lovely deck with patio doors and a beautiful view, but the doors were not properly sealed (there was at least a one-inch gap down the entire door) so the doors let in tons of mosquitoes. Also, there was no screen, so we couldn't keep the doors open at night for fresh air, because then even more mosquitoes would have gotten in. That was a real bummer. Considering the hostel was recently remodeled I would have thought someone would have thought to fix the door gaps and add screens. The hostel has nice sized lockers (you could fit your backpack in the locker which is great) and a small pool (a rarity when staying at a hostel). Breakfast provided was typical and they did not provide any leeway for being late. Buzios is known for its nightlife, so it would be nice if breakfast were offered later. Hours for breakfast are from 8-10am and they were taking away the food at exactly 10am as people were still trying to get their food. The staff spoke multiple languages and were very helpful in tips of things to do and booking the cool buggy's that everyone drives around Buzios. It was ranked top three hostel in South America in 2006. I would say that it is pushing it a bit. It's a nice hostel, remodeled, looks nice, etc, but there are a number of nice hostels out there and I would not rank this one as top three in all of South America.
