“Extremely romantic - beautiful gem”
Reviewed 29 January 2010

Stayed at the hotel for a very romantic weekend. We were pleasantly surprised by this magnificent boutique hotel.

The rooms were very nice. The pool and restaurant overlook the water which was very romantic at sunset. The hotel staff was very responsive and helpful.

The hotel is at the end of the main restaurant and shopping area so you feel connected yet just far enough so that you can be very relaxed.

Highly recommend the boogie car rentals and drive around to the other beaches on Buzios. Each has its own very special appeal.

There is another town, Cabo de Frio (?) where you can take a boat ride to small little islands and even some private beaches owned by the Brazilian Navy, I thnk. The beach was amazing, and the water was so clear.

Aside from the incredible view and lovely set-up of the hotel, this really felt like a stay in someone's house, with lots of personal touches and effort in the details. For example, hibiscus blossoms decorating our room, and a stunningly beautiful and delicious breakfast and really lovely complimentary shampoos and soaps. (L'Occitane brand). The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is well located a short walk to the center of town, and a short walk to some of the best beaches in Buzios (Azeda and Azedinha). The room was small but comfortable..as was the bed! We had one of the rooms overlooking the pool, with a small terrace. Really loved our stay.

Idyllic, small boutique hotel with exceptional views, wonderful food, wonderful, caring staff who really made you feel special. Nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful decor which has been indiviually chosen by the owner, who clearly loves this hotel. Charming due to its intimate size. A lovely area for a romantic stay. Very close to the town which has lovely restaurants, especially Sawasdee, the Thai restaurant. Fantastic boutiques selling reasonably priced clothes and jewellery. A real must for those that like to chill at the end of their holiday. Fantastic beaches where you can have lunch cooked for you on the beach at reasonable prices. Clear water where you can snorkle and see turtles etc.

This review is specifically for the Master Suite. The main drawback to the Vila D'Este is that there seems to be a huge discrepancy between the types of rooms. All of the rooms look great, but some are in the back of the hotel, while others are in the front. I would probably only go to this hotel if I was staying in the Master Suite or in one of the other ocean view rooms.

So let me say, the Master Suite is beautiful. The terrace is amazing. The only problem is that the jacuzzi on the terrace has cold water so it's not all that comfortable to sit in unless it's really really hot outside (it wasn't that hot in September).

The sauna pool is really warm and comfortable. It's not that big, so it gets a bit crowded when lots of people are there, but it's still totally fine. We didn't get into the other pool because the water was cold.

The service was beyond amazing. The staff was so attentive to every need. The food was also great!

Lastly, the breakfast is great. The bacon and sausage was a BIT greasy for my test but everything else was just lovely. I was SOOOO sad to leave this hotel. It was really wonderful. I cannot wait to go back.

A lot of people have recommended the hotel next door, casa brancas. we went there for dinner one night. i will say that the common terrace area is much nicer and they look like the rooms are nicer on average. BUT if you can book the master suite at Vila D'Este, then I would definitely book that room and head to Casa Brancas for dinner/drinks. The thing is that Vila D'Este has a very nice boutique hotel vibe while Casa Brancas is a bigger and seems to be more of a scene. I didn't see any of the rooms at Casa Brancas.

Go go go!! You won't be disappointed.

Oh! We also had two massages and they were wonderful as well!

If you go to Buzios, definitely rent a buggy and drive to other parts of the island. All of the beaches are different.

We went here on a honeymoon.

We really enjoyed our stay here, the staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The location was great, lots of good restaurants and shops on the doorstep.

We got a cab from the street in Rio direct to the hotel, much cheaper than arranging transport through the hotel. A shame the hotel can't organise a better deal.

We stayed in an ocean facing room, the room was small and fairly basic but the decor was pretty. The balcony was big with a beautiful view, we spent one evening drinking cocktails and listening to music on the balcony. The whole stay was so chilled out I loved it. The spa area was really nice and most of the time we had it to ourselves. On the Saturday evening a DJ set up decks and we just sat on the terrace and enjoyed the view. There is free internet which again was another touch which made our stay feel like a stay at a friends rather than at a hotel.

My boyfriend and I were very excited about this trip, even though Buzios is a beach place and the weather forecast for that weekend wasn't the greatest. But, we were aware the hotel had a covered acclimatized pool, so if it rained, we were safe and entertained.
Unfortunately, it did rain for the first two days and the acclimatized pool was colder than the normal one. The sauna was also not functioning well. After a couple of complaints, none of it got solved. So, we went up to our room and ordered a couple of sandwiches to eat while we were watching the semi-functioning/broken prehistorical TV. We would have got engaged that night if my boyfriend's sandwich wasn't poisoned with bad tuna. After all, instead of having the weekend of my dreams which he had planned for so long in order to give me the ring, I had to deal with his high fever, vomiting and diarrhea for the rest of the holiday. Even though the staff was kind, I was really frightened with the food poisoning effects since I didn’t get any support on the situation from them. I was close to calling an ambulance when he finally started to respond to the medication prescribed by our doctor through the phone.
When checking out, the bill presented (instead of receiving a discount for all the trouble they have caused us) was mistakenly overrated and, after one more complain to get it fixed, not even an “I’m sorry” we were told.
Thus, we left the good looking hotel very disappointed, disgusted with the kitchen service and very angry with the neglecting attitude of the staff.

We came to Buzios for 7 nights after spending 2 weeks touring brazil as part of our honetymoon in April 09. Buzios was a beautiful place to relax after a hectic 2 weeks. The town is charming and it is well worth hiring a buggy to go off and explore the many beaches.
The hotel is beauitifull - we stayed in an ocean view suite which had a fantastic view. the rooms are simple yet elegent and the hot tub/jacuzzi is wonderful to relax and watch the sunset in. The best thing about the hotel are the staff who are incredibly friendly and on hand to help with anything.
I would thouroughly reccomend this hotel for a romantic break.
