“As close to paradise as one can get!”
Reviewed 21 December 2010

We stayed in the Master Suite for phase 1 of our honeymoon. The hotel really is beautiful and had everything to make our stay romantic and relaxed!
The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The breakfasts were good.
The location is fantastic. A short 5 minute walk to the main town which means you are just outside the hustle and bustle, yet still very close. And a 10 minute walk in the opposite direction is some wonderful beaches.
If you can afford the extra money for the Master Suite, I'd highly recommend it. We were treated like royalty and had our very own private jacuzzi outside the room. The views were spectacular!

As soon as we stepped into Vila d´este, and were welcomed by Andre, the front desk agent in duty, we knew we had made the right choice. Vila d´este is not a pousada, to begin with. It is a very classy and trendy boutique hotel, in which you will find service at it´s best. Andre greeted us, after a very tiring trip, with welcome drinks beside the pool, and talked to us a bit about Buzios and the hotel. Since we were tired, we decided to have dinner at the hotel´s restaurant, and it was delicious! The next morning we had amazing breakfast overlooking the Buzios sea = priceless. We then met Diego, also from the front desk, who helped us with our dinner reservations and tours. Amazing service again! The whole staff is very polite and courteous: from the front desk agents to restaurant and bar attendants, and housekeeping ladies. Will definetely return when in Buzios! If you are looking for a romantic spot, or even if you are alone, and want to get away from the city to relax...this is the place to go!
Tip: Enjoy the beautiful sunset by the warm pool, sipping on caipirinhas, listening to the DJ, who plays some really nice lounge music on Saturdays. The hotel offers really fancy toilletries, by L´Occitane, and the bed sheets are fantastic.
Tip 2: The hotel is a short walk from Rua das Pedras, and it is located at Orla Bardot, therefore, you can walk from and to the best restaurants in town. Location is also a very big plus!

We stayed here for a week in November and I have found it hard to write a review that sums up the Hotel.

On the positive side, the views are fantastic, the staff care and are helpful when asked and the breakfasts are wonderfully presented with more choice than you need.

On the downside, it is very close to a nightclub that plays through the night at weekends, the restaurant has no atmosphere, the bar shuts at 11pm, despite everywhere else being open to the early hours, there are only 7 sunbeds (14 rooms) and the rooms are small (we only had a queen sized bed).

Overall I feel it is an opportunity missed, if the staff worked harder to create a more unique atmosphere in areas like the lounge, bar and restaurant, then people would stay at the Hotel longer and spend more money! In the end I thought it more a delux B&B rather than a boutigue Hotel, establisments such as The House in Barbados do it so much better.

If you are just staying for 1-2 nights its fine as a base, well located and clean and tidy, (most guests do seem to do this), if you want somewhere for longer I would look closely at the alternatives.

I would recommend Buzios itself, there are some great bars and restaurants, and the beaches are wonderful. Take care though, I had my credit card cloned whilst there, but wouldn't stop me going again.

This hotel was fabulous! From the moment we arrived Diego couldn't do enough to help us and we had stepped into the most fabulous environment. Great walking distance to town, fabulous views from the pools, great bar to keep you happy, super breakfast buffet and the rooms were very tropical and plush. The staff made this stay how great it was. Certainly give it a try and take time to just relax at the hotel.

We had a fantastic time at Vila d'Este! The hotel itself is lovely. Just the right size, with really friendly staff who were so happy to help. We particularly enjoyed having a caipirinhia in the jacuzzi pool at the end of the day overlooking the pretty bay below! We had massages which were just what we needed, and although the prices were pretty much the same as in the UK, they were proper massages and well worth it. The rooms were a good size, that are kept nice and clean and tidy, with fridges, safes and even bug repellant plug in and candles, and they have everything you need, as well as lovely L'Occitane toiletries in line with the quality everything else. The only downside about the front three rooms (14,15 and the master suite) is that although they overlook the bay so you get a beautiful view from your balcony and can see whats going on, you also get the general buzz of the road noise and people going by (the road runs along the shoreline between the water and the hotels). This wasn't a problem when we were there as it was just off season, but if the Club 'priviledge' that is a few doors down is open, we could see it might be annoying late at night.

The location is pretty much perfect to walk to any of the nearby beaches (some take a bit longer than others, but worth it), but the buses go regularly enough to get one easily enough and is slap bang behind the bardot statue. Like many of the hotels around Buzios, it's not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties, simply because of the steps you need to go down to get to the main road and to your room if you are one of the front ones.

The food here was lovely, breakfast was of a very high standard! We ate here one evening and again it was tasty and reasonably priced compared to the nearby restaurants, and the chef was honest and said we DIDNT need a side with a particular meal (he was right!), but it's not often you get that.

DO ask the staff for recommendations: they have a drawer of discount vouchers and can direct you to the best restaurants and also can book trips and buggy "boogie" hire for you. Unlike some of the literature, there are cars and lorries etc in Buzios. Difference is the roads are not really made for them, as they are all cobbled, so it's quite interesting when you go for a walk!

A general Buzios thing: Boogie hire (the little buggy type cars you can hire): suggest you go for the one recommended by the hotel. We didnt (as we didnt realise), and got a beautiful looking boogie which was totally useless to drive. No synchromesh in the gearbox, no wingmirrors(!) and steering like a boat, was not fun to drive up the main roads to one of the other beaches. We ended up taking it back early. So beware.

Anyway, if we were back in Buzios we would certainly go here again!

They don't read their reservations, we have been denied entrance due to the fact that one of my children was under 14 years, they didn't read carefully the reservation, but nevertheless denied us the entrance.

To whom it may concern, Good Afternoon!

First of all I apologize for all difficulties that “Mr.olruBelgium” had and I recognize that he went through a very difficult situation.

I would like to explain that he did not make the booking directly with the hotel and that we were not responsible for what happened. He has made the reservation through a tourism operator and service provider in Brazil (Terra Brazil) and they were aware that we do not accept children under 14 years old.

Please note too that in our website, on the reservation form we also have this information: “We only accept guests age 14 and up.”

We regret and we care very much on warning customers and operators partner of the policy that we do not received children under 14 due to our commercial proposal.

Our Best Regards,

Thiago Azeredo.

First I want to say there wasn't a bed bug in sight.

Arrived after stays in Rio and Foz de Iguazo. We splurged and stayed in Master Executive Suite which we would highly recommend to get the full impact of the hotel and of Buzios. It was just wonderful. Room was clean and comfortable with just an incredible view and ambience. The only drawback was the shower's hot water which was sensitive to get the right temperature. But not a real drawback, just took some time to get use to.

But what makes D'este truly a special place was its staff. Everyone was friendly and went out of their way to please. Front desk and restaurant staff including the chief were all terrific. Their suggestions for dinner were spot on.

Buzios is a beautiful place and Villa d'este makes it special.
