“Fantastic pousada with wonderful owners”
Reviewed 27 March 2010

We stayed at Pousada Naturalia in March, 2010 for a couple of days. The owners have done a great job of establishing a simple, serene ,and elegant setting for their guests. We enjoyed this place the most in our 10 days in Brazil. The breakfast is first-rate and the rooms are clean and very comfortable. The balcony with hammock is charming, and a perfect place to relax at the end of the day.
Laurent was so kind and helpful to us-- he recommend hikes on the island and even suggested where we might find the cute, grey monkeys in the trees on the walk to Lopez Mendes beach. (as if on cue, we found the monkeys exactly where he said they might be!)
To top it off, we inadvertently paid too much upon check-out and Laurent went out of his way to get the money delivered to us the next day. Amazing honesty and dedication in these times!!
We would go back in a second and will surely recommend this pousada to our friends.

This is a very well run pousada with informative staff. The rooms are a bit small but have a nice view. Ilha Grande on the other hand was not anything special.

We loved this pousada, and having seen or stayed at two others on Ilha Grande we had something useful to compare it by. It's set back from the beach, a short one-minute walk up a path into the jungle vegetation. The owner has designed it beautifully to give a really natural eco feel - hummingbirds hover in the garden at breakfast, big natural rocks have been left in situ in the reception area, and huge green jungle plants brush you as you return to your room.

Most of the pousadas/guesthouses/hotels on Ilha Grande have similar rooms, fairly basic with small verandas and a hammock. Naturalia's are very similar but just a bit better - the mattress was excellent, two bedside tables not one, proper surfaces for toiletries in the bathroom, a good roomy shower, and a bigger balcony than most with room for a hammock, table and two chairs. They also have WiFi.

Because it's set back from the beach you don't get quite the same views of the bay as you do from a beachfront pousada...but we still thought the view was lovely....lots of jungle plants in the foreground and the sea, boats etc beyond.

The best bit is that this pousada is it's so well run. Laurence and the swiss-lady-I-can't-remember-the-name-of (sorry!) really look after their guests, and take lots of trouble at breakfast to make sure everyone has all the info they need for the day.

One point about the pousadas (guesthouses) on Ilha Grande... Trip Advisor has divided them into hotels and b+b's, but just about every pousada is really a b+b, so you need to read both the hotels section and the b+b section together. Don't think there's any real difference.

you are about a 5 minute walk into the heart of town. this pousada is very nice, clean, and the staff is friendly. rooms are small but they do the job, and there is also a safe in the room. they provide umbrellas but hopefully you do not need them. there are hammocks on the balcony, and the view from the room was a sea view, incredible. great value for what you pay. staff was helpful and stored our bags for us the first day. overall, i would reccomend this place to stay. keep in mind to walk to the heart of town is about a 5-7 minuet walk. however, we did it at night and felt very safe!

When we first got to the island, we carried our luggage, which I would not recommend. Although the hotel is only 10 min walk, it is along the beach and you cannot roll your suitcase. Spend the 10-20 reals and hire a porter especially if you are not used to the heat and humidity. We arrived sweating and out of breath from carrying our suitcases. We were greeted with a pitcher of cold water and cold towels for our faces. We were shown to our room. The room was very roomy. Very nice, basic furnishings and very clean. The balcony is the best part with a hammock, table and two chairs. Also a great feature is the cheap minibar with waters, beer and such.We still bought large bottles in town but it was nice to have at times especially considering that it did not cost more than purchasing in town. The breakfast is good and the staff go around talking to everyone about their plans for the day and give great recommendations. From talking with people staying elsewhere on the island, the naturalia seemed like the place to stay so book in advance.
