“Beautiful and warm service”
Reviewed 7 April 2014

We stayed there 31.march to 2. april. Loved the site of the hotel. Loved the rooms. Loooved the fod and drinks. And love that they try to focus on being enviromental friendly. Hope the visitors follow that through.

It was easy to get the calm relaxed island feeling while staying here.

Room Tip: swimming in the ocean is island style rooms connected to the nature

Asalem is quiet, lovely and beautiful, on a hillside overlooking the wide bay with the harbor and main village of the island. It's in the middle of the nature, and very calming. The rooms were basic, but that's what we expected - they were clean and pretty. The taxi boat takes you to the village, and will fetch you back when you call - great if you want to eat late or go to the parties. Breakfast is fresh and tasty. The staff was helpful and friendly. Lovley experience!

Perched on a hillside overlooking the perfect harbor is this little gem, Asalem. I'd say this is one of the most idyllic getaways I've visited. Staff are helpful and friendly, food (breakfast included, dinner as you wish) was fresh and tasty, rooms basic and clean. The water beguiles and the beaches are some of the most beautiful around. Brazilians, I loved my visit, thank you. I'm ready to return anytime.

My girlfriend & I stayed at Asalem for a week in March 2014. Hotel is clean, quiet, safe & in a gorgeous location. Staff were really friendly & helpful. 20 min walk or 5 min boat ride from Abrao. Breakfast was delicious & we even had a visit from a turtle one morning! If u feel like treating yourself this is the place!

We stayed 2 nights in the Eco Premium Suite, with comfy lounge chairs on the balcony and a killer view! Secluded and peaceful, it was lovely showering with the view and waking up in the morning, pulling back the curtains and seeing the colours of the bay. 2 for 1 drinks during Happy Hour (5pm to 7pm) at the bar and they serve dinner too, if you book ahead before 7pm for your meal.

Staff were helpful with advice on day trips and transfers back to Rio and the hotel boat will pick you and and drop you off an the main pier. Alternatively, its a short walk into town, but bring a torch as it gets very dark at night!

When we arrived we used the hotel kayaks to paddle around the bay and nearby beaches, then took a boat to Lopez Mendez beach the following morning. Ask at Reception and they will call and request that the boat pick you up directly from Asalem (and drop you back off) at no extra cost. They can also arrange private taxi boats to take you to other beaches and bays of your choice.

Would definitely recommend Asalem if you're looking for a secluded part of the island to kick back and relax away from the other hostels and pousadas in the main town!

Room Tip: The Eco-Premium has an unbeatable view and was very comfortable.

My Fiance and I stayed in Asalem recently and had an amazing time there. The place is located off the main drag in the town, and is nestled near a path that leads to a couple of the local beaches in Ilha Grande. We found the staff to be incredibly helpful during our stay (Thank you Vanessa and Co!). Willing to help us set up just about anything we wanted to do (from Water Taxi's to Tour's around the island to Packing a lunch for us for our Day at Lopes Mendes Beach). We had a great time exploring the beauty of the island from there and taking suggestions from the hotel staff. Dinner there at night was not just in a beautiful setting but delicious. Highly recommend there specialty stew. And the dinner service was really wonderful. We stayed in one of the more modest priced rooms, and despite some people speaking negatively about it, we had a very nice stay there and it had everything we needed and expected.

The only negatives on Asalem are things that come with the territory when planning to go away to a remote island that is praised for it's rustic nature and embrace of the environment around it. The power seems to go down there a bit due to bad storms and island infrastructure. This proved to be a challenge getting in touch with the hotel when we arrived as there phone was down, but what else would you expect when you are traveling to a place with such surroundings?

Overall I would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves remote environments, beaches and a bit of adventure in a beautiful place. I hope to come back very soon and would GLADLY stay here again and recommend to all my friends.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the more modest priced rooms and it had everything we needed. We didn't plan...

We spent three beautiful days at Asalem...originally it was supposed to be just 2 nights, but once we got there and saw our accommodations in the Eco Honeymoom suite, we decided to stay longer.
Beautiful location, relaxing laid-back vibe, great service. As other reviewers said, it's rustic, but we found it just perfect. Also loved the asalem boat, our means of transportation (besides hiking) for our days there.
My husband and I could have sat for hours on the restaurant deck, looking out the at view.
Eco Honeymoon suite is a splurge, but worth it, with its view from the shower out through the palm trees out to the sea. Private deck with hammock, too. See attached photo.
Carrying very fond memories with us. A dreamy place.
