This pousada is situated on a hillside with wonderful views of the bay, get a room with a balcony and a hammock! Its an easy walk down to the town and this is perfectly safe, there is a nightwatchman on the road.
The room we had was very clean and well furnished for a holiday stay. The hotel staff spoke good English and were knowledgable about the town and points of interest. Breakfast on the terrace was great.
Two small points, this pousada is not cheap and a welcoming drink and some modest toiletries would privide a nice finishing touch.

Room Tip: I am not sure if all rooms have a balcony, make sure you get one!

Set back on a hill opposite the entrance to the Fort gives the views from this pousada out over the marina in Paraty a wow factor. The pousada has a small pool in a well kept but small garden area. However the pool is in the shade mostly, because of the overhanging foliage. The check in was excellent with English fluently spoken and our room (No 1) was clean, comfortable and reasonably well equipped with the bonus of a balcony. However if you get one of the three Lux double rooms whilst they have better views with the balconies No 1 and 2 back on to the kitchen and you might be disturbed by noise as breakfast is prepared. The breakfast and cleaning staff are really very helpful and even though they speak no English they always manage to make themselves understood. The breakfast was a buffet of good choice in quality and quantity with eggs cooked just how you wish. The dining area was very pleasant with views over the tops of houses to the town and also the pool area. We had to change rooms to extend our stay and were then in a room down stairs which was slightly cheaper but quieter all around but with less of a view, choices you may wish to consider. This pousada is just a 15 min walk to the bridge which takes you into the old town of Paraty and you cannot get lost on this pleasant short walk. There are an abundance of shops and restaurants to choose from in the cobbled streets to suit all budgets. It is a very picturesque place to just meander around, whether in the day or picking your restaurant at night. Morro do Forte do not do evening meals. It is also only 5 minutes walk to the town beach although this is not the best for sunbathing or swimming. The better beach is Jabaquara, ten minutes in the other direction over the hill. Here you will also find bars and restaurants on the beach and beach road. Further exploration will require a car and Trindade can be recommended as a beach destination. And yes, the schooner trips are a worthwhile way of seeing the coast and spending a very pleasant day. All around a very good place to stay.

Stayed at this pousada with spouse and grown daughter last week. Room 8 (or 108) has the loveliest view (balcony too) and will accomodate 3. Only improvement would be a screen on the latticework in the bathroom. Refreshing pool, beautiful flowers, short walk into the lovely colonial town of Paraty. Wonderful breakfast with gorgeous view. In terms of management, Marcia and Alex both speak English very well. Computers are available and Marcia is friendly and laid back. Alex was very helpful and gracious and gave us some great tips; do the schooner and jeep tours for sure!! Great value. And order lunch on both of them! We really liked Paraty tours; fun guides; friendly, yet efficient. Our stay was a real highlight of a great trip.

Up a hill from the center of town, this place got great reviews from Lonely Planet, and LP's description was right on the money. Rooms were sized right for two people, ours had two twin beds caddy-corner to one another. Our other room had a queen bed. Windows were open, no screens and no glass. An air-conditioner in the wall provided cool air...strange with the glass-less windows and no screens. Ironic, yet funny: the doors to our rooms had locks, but anyone could reach through the open window to unlock the door. At night, a tiny, cute lizard scaled a wall inside our room. We thought it to be kind of nice and appreciated a touch of wild nature in our room.

Linens and towels were snowy white, soft, and had a unique freshness with slightly/barely detectable invigorating scent (due to their laundry detergent), as they are laundered on-site and are air-dried. Bathrooms seemed smallish, but were spotlessly clean. Beds were comfortable, a touch firm, but neither too hard nor too soft.

Breakfast was served on an open verandah, adorned by hummingbird feeders suspended just two feet away from our table. All during breakfast, tiny hummingbirds zipped in and out amongst the feeders--lovely. Breakfast was a delightful spread of ham, cheeses, fresh fruit, bread, hard-boiled and fried eggs, cereals, fresh squeezed fruit juice and great coffee/tea.

One of our rooms faced the garden, the other faced the sea. The hotel is up on a slight hill, about 1/2 mile from the center of town. Street parking only, no problem. We walked into town at a leisurely pace. A few locals lingered down the street on horseback (no saddle). Not recommended for those who are unable to walk - the cobblestones in town are large, irregularly-shaped and spaced quite a distance apart from one another. My 80-year old mother had a little difficulty walking around town. The hotel and our room was absolutely silent, both during the day and all night.

There's a tiny pool, with a few chaises around by the pool and in the smallish-sized garden. An adjacent casita offers a mini-suite. Some rooms are one flight up, no elevator. Internet access was available, but kind of "limited". The owners were awfully friendly and very, very courteous.

We absolutely recommend this hotel, without reservation, to singles, couples and families. If you have very refined taste seeking true 5-star accommodations (such as Ritz-Carlton) and the most supreme luxury, then stay elsewhere. I think 90% of Americans and Europeans will find this hotel comfortable, quiet and restful and one of the best values around.

The town of Paraty is quaint, friendly and we felt completely safe (there are other parts of Brazil where you MUST be on your guard) but NEVER here. I found a shop selling hand-made blankets and throws...and bought a TON of stuff. We bought some clothing, a hat, and other non-touristy paraphernalia. Other places often featured absolute junk, if not even CRAP, but NOT Paraty. We think you'll like many of the local shops.

Restaurants in town offered wonderful dinners, all very reasonably priced. Paraty is well-worth the drive. We caution drivers that road signage was weak if not even poor and at times, practically absent (many signs were old and rusted and barely legible); roads were pot-holed here and there. Mountain roads approaching Paraty can be fog-bound during mornings and late afternoons...making the drive a touch difficult - worthwhile and definitely so, if you make your stay at the Pousda Morro do Forte.

The Morro do Forte is a great pousada up the Hill in Paraty. It is a short 10 minute walk to the Historic centre.
The Rooms are spacious and clean. The view from the rooms is great. The view from the breakfast lounge is simply the best there is.
The nr 10 room will get a bit moist when it is raining a lot.
The staff is very helpfull. They speak english, spanish and german.
Paraty is great, it is safe to walk from the historic centre to the Pousada at night.
