Chose this place whilst desperately seeking accommodation over the new year period. Paraty itself is a wonderful town and I would love to return again someday - but will be avoiding the Bed and Breakfast!
Firstly, after corresponding with the owner via e-mail, he told us that he would personally greet us at the bus-stop and take us to the hotel....WRONG!! He was no-where in sight, and when we called the hotel his assistant could not speak a word of english! The cab drivers at the bus station did not seem to recognise the address, and I was beginning to worry that the place didn't even exist! After being given vaguely correct directions from a local (not many speak english), we managed to find the place after searching on foot and lugging our bags around the streets for half an hour! On arrival the brazilian assistant showed us to our rooms - which did nothing to lift our moods - the rooms were extremely basic, non air-conditioned and basically reminded me of being on school camp.
At this point, the owner miraculously appeared and asked us to sort out the payment....'are you serious!!?'
I felt sorry for his assistants, I got the vibe that they were his personal slaves - they did everything, cooking breakfast, cleaning rooms, checking in guests etc... Not too sure what the owner actually did at all??? Very strange!!!
Basically, it's not the worst place to stay, its in quite a good location, very close to the historical center of town - but I would avoid it if possible, there are so many better places to stay in Paraty - we only stayed here as a last resort!!
