We stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Paraty for the Pinga festival in August. The owner (Cecelia) is absolutely lovely and will go out of her way to help her guests. The chalet we stayed in was very nice and spotlessly clean. There was a selection of drinks and snacks in the room at very reasonable prices which gave it a homely touch. Breakfast was fantastic - the nicest we had during our 4 week stay in South America with granola, natural yogurt, ham and cheese toasties, freshly squeezed juice and fruit. Only things to be beware of are there are lots of dogs on the grounds who hang around during breakfast etc, didn't bother us as we like dogs but it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Also, the grounds are very dark at night and you have to go up a steep cobbled hill, so may not be suitable for people who are older or can't walk very well. 10 - 15 min drive to Paraty centre, but the bus stops right outside. I was a bit worried about staying so far away at first (it was all we could get due to the festival) but having stayed at Vila da Mata I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others.
