This restaurant located right on the main square is the most traditional restaurant of Paraty. Although the food is not outstanding or the restaurant is breathtaking, i has been maintaining its quality throughout the years. i t is also the main restaurant in Paraty. Prices are not on the low side but the food can be divided between two or three people. I visited with two friends of mine and we ordered two dishes. We also brought in our wine and they charged R$15,00 for the cork which we found quite reasonable.
The restaurant is very small and tight, so do not expect any ambiance and service is ok for Paraty, where service is almost not available.

The location of the restaurant is of course exotic (although our host from Paraty said that this is the place, where all the small boats are bringing their clients) and the food was fresh and delicious. We had a plate of palm hearts and shrimps in a pot A Bahiana, which were both big enough for sharing. But you have to take into account that the prices of your food include also the meal for your boatman (most likely), so the prices were the highest we saw in Paraty during our 8 days. Still, it's well worth the experience.

If you can afford to be there at the low season, you can get the experience of being completely by yourself at this magnificent restaurant on a hill, which did not need much effort to be well decorated (nature had taken care of it). Kind staff, a distinguished guest (their colorful bird) and extremely well cooked food. Two strong suggestions: the BEM CASADINHO shrimp and the A JULIANA shrimp dishes (both cost USD 55, serves two persons). It is located at the ILHA DO ALGODAO (means cotton island), it is 1,5 hours away from the mainland docks. The view from the restaurant is stunning and the water surrounding the island is crystal clear, great for snorkelling.

On our recent trip to Paraty we stopped in here for dinner on our first night and were no impressed. Although the prices are slightly higher during holiday season (as we were told by one of the workers on a boat tour) they seemed too high for what they had to offer. We waited 20 minutes for someone to even notice that we were ready to order and trying to get their attention and while we were ordering we were interrupted twice as the waiter simply walked away to do something else without a word. The food was decent but took an extremely long time (we just ordered a pizza) to get to our table. We won't be going back.

For many, many years this was one of Paraty's top restaurants. I have eaten here often over the years but had not been back for five years. This place is now best to be avoided.

We arrived and noticed only one table occupied ( this should have been a sign!). No waiter or waitress, let alone the maitre, ventured near our table. They were all hanging out of the window or standing in the doorway, blissfully unaware of the presence of clients. Finally a girl appeared and brought the ( very tatty) menus. The selection of dishes has not changed at all over the years.

No couvert ( bread, tidbits) appeared or offered. Dinner itsself dragged along with unexciting food. The wine list is very limited ( most wines there were no longer available!) Desserts were never a strong point in this restaurant, so we skipped this part ordering coffee. No longer the local liqueurs or cachaça appear. All together not good, not the food, terrible service and ambiance zero. And yes, to be able to pay I had to get up and fetch the waiter from the street! And be prepared for a high bill.
