Charming pousada in the historic centre of Paraty. Location to explore Paraty. Rooms are authentic and clean. You can open a window. English is not a problem here at all. Stayed two nights. Nice pool area and ´garden´. Breakfast is good. Free wifi signal not strong in the room. Old safe with keylock.
Weak points of Porto Imperial: the streetnoise and 'the restaurant'. Although the old town of Paraty is more or less car-free, the street next to the pousada is a much used passage for vehicles. In the evening and in the morning (starting 6.30 AM). Bring earplugs if you want to stay in your bed. Or rise and shine like the early birds you hear all around you.
The other weak link is the restaurant. Not inviting at all, more a canteen. In fact it is the breakfast-area. The pousada should consider to upgrade this part of the building. More charm urgently needed here. Meanwhile there are many cosy restaurants, a very good one is Porto (pricecategory $$$) a few houses to your right leaving the pousada.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the courtyard, or at least away from the street Travessa Gravata.

Very well located in the middle of the old center of Paraty. Everyone at the hotel was really polite (they could speak both Portuguese and English). They also make reservation for little trips around islands and beaches near the city. We just had a great time!

The hotel is in a perfect location for the old town and has gracious communal facilities and dining. The bedrooms are small and somewhat spartan, but we did not spend a lot of time in our room. There is good wifi throughout the hotel, the staff are friendly and helpful and I would recommend it.

Stayed for 4 nights. Pleasant staff, most could speak english. We had a room upstairs at the front and it was still quiet. It is in a great location in the old town. Lovely pool and surrounds. The lounge and breakfast areas are wonderfully furnished and the breakfasts were fantastic. No issues with cleanliness of room. Would stay there again.

We stayed here for 3 nights around x-mas. The location is right in the old town accessible to everything. My wife and I had a superior room while our friend had a basic room. While our room was definitely larger for the added price difference nothing more special. What makes this place nice is the helpful staff who ably gave opinions about restaurants, activities and which cachaca to drink. The breakfast is also very nice, and the pool while small, is relaxing. While we booked a bit late in high season, my sense though is there may be better deals around. Of course the more expensive places lend themselves to quieter crowds which is always a plus...

Room Tip: The superior rooms don't seem to be much added benefit

Very good stay at Pousada Porto Imperial. Located in the historic center with several good dining options nearby. Cleanness of the room was not impeccable, but it is absolutely ok considering it is a very old building. Nice and renovated swimming pool area with sauna and jacuzzi. High quality breakfast.
Afternoon staff was very friendly and helpful. They suggested and booked a exclusive boat trip for our family. On board of "Manati" boat we had a great time with Pablo and Valcir that took us to see turtles, swim with fishes and eat in a restaurant-island.
We would certainly recommend this pousada for couples and families.
