“Delicious cod fish, lovely place”
Reviewed 5 April 2014

We had a wonderful time at Alfaia during lunch. The place was full on a Saturday early afternoon, but the service was wonderful. The food was all great. We started with the cod ceviche and a simple salad. We also had bolinhos as appetizers and they were perfect. The main entree, Bacalhau a Alfaia, which is cod fish with a white sauce and potato chips; it was so nicely served that the three of us had enough to have seconds. Pasteis de nata and ovos moles were the dessert dishes. We loved it all!

“Wonderful restaurant!!”
Reviewed 1 April 2014

We had a wonderful meal here, with, as others have said, huge portions. We shared the cod ceviche appetizer, grilled octopus, and "fish of the day, " (sea bass), in a red sauce. Each dish was very different and wonderfully flavorful. The staff was so friendly and attentive. A definite must!!

“Good local restaurant...with huge portions !”
Reviewed 25 March 2014

We called in for a late dinner after a late arrival into the city and were very impressed by the quality of the food and the service we received, as the waiters did look like they were about to go home !!! ...sorry guys ! The decor is simple, the wine list is limited but the seafood is excellent..... with the cod and octopus truly excellent. The service we received was faultless too.

Be aware that the portions are huge and 2 half portions were plenty for myself and my girlfriend.

“Really good Bacalao”
Reviewed 9 March 2014

I was spending a Sunday here in Rio and ai checked this little Portuguese restaurant just around the corner of my Hotel... Considering that I live in Barcelona and I know something about good fish food I can tell that the octopus is just excellent and the Bacalao is even better than the one you can have in Portugual...the only negative thing is that the wine list is pretty poor..anyway it would reccomend this place...good value for money

“Meet the locals!”
Reviewed 1 February 2014

Nothing fancy here, plain wooden tables, open kitchen, established over 20 years and tucked away behind the Copacabana Palace hotel. Old style Portuguese fish restaurant serving mainly cod! cooked in many different ways and unbelievably large portions. A half portion is enough for 2 people. A salad also would have fed 4 people! Incredible value.

Limited wines but good some cocktails and beers.

Full of locals and only a few tourists here, so great fun trying to find someone who can speak good English as most of the staff do not except for an ageing waiter who has been here for nearly 20 years. Great value when comparing the portions and excellent quality as well.
