We stayed in the Ipanema room. Very nice room, new, clean and with a good size. The swimming pool is nice. It is a boutique hotel with just 8 rooms, so you get plenty of privacy in a romantic atmosphere. The staff is nice, the view is beautiful and the location is good. We recommend this hotel if you want to stay far from the city's major sightseeing's.

I booked through the Splendia website to stay here for a long weekend. The place has a great setting in residential hills behind Santa Teresa. It would be a fair walk to the bars and restaurants but the taxi the receptionist called for me arrived very quickly and only charged the meter rate starting at the hotel.
I arrived a little early so I enjoyed a complementary juice and snack on the terrace whilst my room was readied. Unfortunately the steep setting means there are a lot of steps to negotiate to get anywhere so, since I have some balance and mobility problems, it was just not going to work for me. The receptionist and manager were very understanding and looked after me superbly making a reservation for me at the nearby Hotel Santa Teresa; there was no suggestion of paying anything for the cancelled reservation. Splendia were equally great and refunded my deposit in full.
Although I didn’t actually stay I can say that the place is well run by truly friendly people, the rooms looked modern and comfortable, and the aromas coming from the kitchen were very encouraging that the food would be great too.

The location is beautiful. Great views. There are only a few rooms, so the hotel and the pool area are not crowded, sometimes even empty. It really feels like you own the place! The service made us feel even more at home. Polite, but not pretentious. The common areas and rooms are very tastefully furnished. The breakfast and snacks are good.
Note: Be aware that the rooms are made for couples - no door between the bedroom and the bathroom/toilets, glass windows between the bedroom and shower! We were two friends and were a bit surprised by that, but we still managed to keep our privacy!

Rio 180 is up on the hillside in the Santa Tereza area. Rio stretches out below it and Mount Corcovado is just to the right. The view is great and you get beautiful photos from here. Yes it is a taxi ride down to Ipanema or to the other areas but it is a serene place to stay. You may get alarmed when first driving up here as the area doesn't look grand but things change for the better when you step inside. Rio 180 has only 8 rooms and they treat each guest as he/she is the only one. They have a chef on staff and made us a late lunch when we arrived and dinner if we stayed in. All of the staff is very helpful. Rio 180 is the ideal hotel if you want to avoid the standard commercial hotels when in Rio.

The hotel is pretty new so it is still work in progress and whoever visit it will (if open to it) feel part of creating a dream. The staff is lovely and invited us for drinks in cool Santa Theresa bars as well as to samba and baile funk parties so you really get a chance to see the real Brazil. They also help you with anything you may need or want to do and it very much felt as being part of a family.

The view of the hotel is the best you can get in Rio, with the Corcovado, sugarloaf mountain, the town and its beaches in the backgrounds so just sitting on the terrace with a caipirinha listening to the sound from the town was a great little pastime.

The downside is that the hotel is new, the restaurant is yet to open and some conservative minded people may not fit for it as the experience is more personal than perfectly professional. But we loved it and I recommend it for anyone loving great interior design, friendly service and an open mind.

I'm very surprised to read such a negative review below. We had a truly wonderful stay at the Rio 180 Hotel and would recommend it highly to anyone who doesn't want to stay in the centre of downtown Rio. Unfortunately our transfer from the airport never materialised either but a taxi to the hotel was cheap. The only negative is the fact that it's so hidden away that you have to get taxis everywhere and a lot of taxi drivers don't know where it is actually located. However, this is definitely not a reason to not stay at Rio 180, particularly when Rio's a big city and so you end up in taxis wherever you are.

All of the staff at Rio 180 were extremely helpful. They organised tours for us so that we were able to see the best parts of the city in the little time we had (3 days), and they recommended some great restaurants which we probably would never have found without them. The room was beautifully decorated with a great view overlooking Corcovado mountain - we could sit in the jacuzzi and look at the Cristo Redentor statue. The pool area was also very stylish - unfortunately it rained during our stay so there wasn't much opportunity for sunbathing! The breakfast was great too - fresh eggs and fruit every morning. It was a shame not to have had a bar or restaurant, but with so many great places to visit in Rio this certainly wasn't the end of the world.

All in all, it was a fabulous start to our trip round Brazil and I'd definitely recommend this hotel for people who want a personal service.
