Four of us went and gorged ourselves on lots of different cuts of meat. The were not stingy and the drinks were good too. However the meat was covered in salt and MSG, so not a good place for healthy eating.

Located across the street from the busy square near the General Osorio Metro stop in Impanema where the Sunday Hippie Market is held, Carretao Churrascaria was our choice for Sunday lunch during our recent trip to Rio for the Olympics. Arrive early as the wait to get a table was quite lengthy as we left our lunch and 95% of the waiting crowd were locals.
An enormous salad buffet and all the freshly grilled meat you can eat is available for a set price. Drinks and desserts are extra and for three people with waters, beers, caipirinhas and service our bill came to about $100US. The buffet bar included sushi, paella, and more types of salads than you could possibly sample, but go light on the salads and save room for the succulent delicious meats. Crispy onion rings, French fries and cheese balls are also supplied. A steady stream of servers with skewers of beef, pork and sausages rotate from table to table and the variety of cuts of meat are wonderful. When our teenage son, with a hollow leg for food, is actually filled up and weeks later still waxes nostalgic about his meat memories you know this is a find for the visitor.

When in Rio, do as the Brazilians do. We looked into several churrascaria' sin the area and decided on this little gem. The moment we sat down we had a waiter stop by and lead us to the wonderful salad bar. Now, don't be tempted to fill up on greens, the star of the show is the meat. Every 5 minutes a waiter strolled by and offered the most delectable steaks, pork, sausage, and chicken. Make sure to enjoy the most amazing onion rings and fries in between bites. They fried cheese balls are a delight.

We paid about 240 reals which included a 40 real tip, that worked out to be about $80 dollars (this included two cokes and two beers). In my opinion I ate $200 worth of food. I highly suggest this restaraunt if you are in town.

Have been here twice now - during Olympics and World Cup. Great restaurant at a smashing price where the range of grilled meat (beef and pork and chicken) just keeps on coming. Good buffet too and wash it down with plenty of caipirinha. It's not flash and lots of locals here but can't beat for feeling of what locals do and getting a super price.
