Villa Laurinda stands out among all places to stay at in Rio. Virtually nobody, tourist or resident, stays at a place with a garden at all, at what a nice place Villa Laurinda is in this respect, but not only.

As a Carioca friend of mine states it: The marvellous thing in Rio is not the beach, it is the forrest! And that is what you have at Villa Laurinda, but you are right in the middle of the city, and in the nicest quarter at the same time.. Be awakend by the birds, see the little monkeys jumping around in the trees while you have breakfast, inhale the wonderful smell of the jasmine at night while sitting by the pool and watching the bats flying around and take a sip of water from the pool. Take a swim in a private environment, or visit the bars and restaurants nearby, walk down to the Lapa at night for going out... The list is endless.

I have had the pleasure of staying here many times, and it would have always been wonderful, even if I had had to do without the familiar environment, the friendly service, and the gentle people who make this place even more marvellous than it already is anyway.

Highly recommended!

We stayed for two nights and were very happy with our selection. Excellent value relative to surrounding hotels - especially those on the beach! It is on a quiet street just a block or two from the buzzy central area of artsy Santa Teresa. I love the neighborhood - offers a lot more charm than much of the beach-front areas.

There are only a handful of guest rooms and we received very warm and personable service from the manager, Vera. The rooms are basic, but neat and very clean with windows overlooking the garden. The shared bathroom was nice and clean and right next door The building had historic charm and was well maintained. The pool and bar area are great for relaxing. The simple continental breakfast included fresh local fruits and breads.

Room Tip: The suits have in-room bathrooms, although it was no inconvenience having a standard room with a "shared" bathroom .

If you are expecting a fancy hotel, you will be disappointed. On the other hand, if you appreciate being slightly off the beaten path, in a lovely zen-like environment, Villa Laurinda is the place for you. It provides a unique, historic-feeling colonial home, in a quiet location at a reasonable price. The breakfast was delicious, the room clean and comfortable, and Vera, the hotel manager, is a delight. She offered excellent, local advice about sites, restaurants and samba clubs. Villa Laurinda is a lovely haven to return to after a day in Rio.
Just a note about the location which is not Villa Laurinda specific: Many taxi cab drivers are reluctant to drive to Santa Teresa during late night hours. Although I always found a taxi, it sometimes took some effort.

The best place to stay in Rio!

I've been living in Europe for about five years and I got used to the european standards. Vl. Laurinda not only offers these standards as it also delivers the brazilian charming and sympathetic service.

Overall the B&B is extremely clean and comfortable. It has an unique design and awesome location: It's located nearby Rio's city center in the Santa Teresa neighborhood. The place to be in Rio if you like art, history and good restaurants.

My recommendation: Enjoy the gorgeous Rio de Janeiro's beaches during the day and then relax in the refreshing Vl.Laurinda's pool later in the afternoon.

a great place in rio- we will defently come again!
our morning startet with a nice breakfast on the balcony with fresh fruits, caffe, juice, self made cake and everything you can wish for. the location is in the heart of santa teresa, the lovely artistic suburb of rio. it is very easy to get around, just take to historical "bondinho" to go to the centre and from there you can use the metro, or just take a taxi in front of the hotel.
the rooms are all unique, very cleen and we slept very well.
if u need a break from this city that never sleeps, just relax a day at the hotelpool and enjoy the huge tropical garden...
