My stay was far too short in this lovely peaceful villa with lovely garden, pool and bar area and lovely staff. Although on a steep hill, the yellow taxis are cheap and it was a wonderful refuge from the bustling streets of Rio. The nearby historic tram terminus gives a free ride down to the town centre for museums, banks, the Lapa bar district and the Metro to whisk you down to the Copacabana and Epenema beaches. (The tram has a 4R fee to come back up, closes around 4pm). Local bars are good value although with the usual warnings about walking around late at night, there are some only 5mins from the villa and if you mention The Beatles you will make friends for life! I think the whole of South America loves the Beatles and other bands of that era. The locals will also love to practice their English on you. But have a few Portuguese words of your own. Obrigado!

Room Tip: All the rooms are good with two that share a bathroom so do check if this is an issue.

I stayed already the 3rd. time here in this absolutly wonderful Pousada in the artistic neighborhood of Santa Teresa. All the staff where wonderfull from Reception, to roommate and gardene/watchman.
Everytime I come back I feel like coming back home. The Breakfast is enormous you won't finish all. And fresh prepared and no buffet which I really prefer. The Villa is set in a green lushy garden with birds singing. A clean pool which is daily several cleaned, free towels , chaise longue and a mini-bar to quench your thirst after a eventful day!
I only can recommand this Pousada who likes a quite and relaxed place to escape from hustle bustle of a big vibrating town like Rio.
Even I walk back the couloured steps up to Santa Teresa at night and I never feel unsave.
Enjoy your Stay here recomanded by Daniel from CH

This is a relatively simple accomodation run by a French-Brazilian duo in the heart of Santa Teresa. It makes for a steep climb after your day, which is the only negative thing I have to say about this place.

The hotel itself is a beautifully restored old villa, with a nice swimming-pool. Rooms are simple and either with fan or ac and either ensuite or with a shared bathroom. Breakfast is copious and served by a very nice gentleman.

The neighborhood feels safeish when you walk up and down to Gloria or Lapa, but it is a steeeeeeeep climb, especially if you have already been walking around for 6-8 hours a day. The Lapa steps are close by, the nearest metro is Gloria, at approximately 15 min down and 20 min up. You can also take the free bonde tram which will drop you either close to the Lapa steps or you can drive on it over the viaduct close to the Municipal Theatre and Cinelandia metro.

I stayed here for 2 days. Masterful garden to chill out and tasty breakfast. This place is not only clean and comfortable, but it also has a great style! The location is well connected to the rest of the city and seemed to be safe -- i didn't have any issue in the neighborhood.

From having brakfast in the middle of nature, to swimming in the pool, to the rooms that look like a movie set, Villa Laurinda is a beatuiful place where you only find nice and interesting people.
Santa Teresa, the neighborhood where Villa Laurinda is, is beautiful from it's colonial architechture to the small bars and beautiful restaurants you find. It's very much alive, but Villa Laurinda can also offer a lot of peace and quiet.
Would really recommend it.
