Having arrived 6 hours early for check in, we were charged a full nights rate to check into our room which given the fact that a room was available, we thought that it would have been a nice gesture to reduce the price or let us use it for a few hours. The room they gave us was tiny and had a view of the opposite wall! When we wanted to check out late, the hotel refused despite the fact that we had paid for an extra night for very little and this made us furious. We spent a lot of money at the hotel and felt thoroughly short changed, therefore despite some good aspects to the hotel, we could not recommend it to anyone.

this was our first hotel on our first trip to brazil and it was a great introduction to an amazing country. the location is great - we could see the beach and christ the redeemer from our side room. Staff were very helpful and rooms were clean. Didn't have dinner there but the breakfasts were good.Liked the scrambled eggs!

I booked the Arena on a recommendation from a friend and am so very happy that I did. It is right on Copacabana beach and is just a fabulous boutique hotel. I arrived prior to check-in time, but was warmly greeted and though the room wasn't available as yet, was invited to enjoy the rooftop pool and dining. I enjoyed some fresh mango juice but was blown away by the spectacular view!!
The front desk staff were beyond helpful and gave me great directions and suggestions for touring the city. Extremely friendly and all around amazing. Breakfast is included and it is awesome!! Fresh fruit, juices, breads, eggs (not made to order though) and other items. I will DEFINITELY go back to the Arena when my travels take me back to Brazil!

I have booked this hotel based on some reviews. It turned out to be A BIG MISTAKE! The standard room looked like a box, all in lamineted plastic wood and when opening the window it was a wall and terrible smell from the kitchen. The watter was not running properly and the hair dryer was intouchable dirty. I told them I didn't expect a sea view since it was a standard room, but that box could't be considered a room, but they didn't care. The second day, when the wc and the sink didn't work at all they finally changed the room into a breathable one, but still with lousy laminated wood. The breakfast was not good, the juice was chemical and the watter was from the tap. I asked a natural watter and they brought it from the bar and made me paid it. Internet is also chargeable. The spa is not actually a spa, there is a turkish sauna but with no place to dress or even hank the clother, except a tiny bathroom!! The only positive aspect of this hotel was the position that is on the Copacabana beach. JUST DON'T GO THERE, is awfull!!

Staff was good and co-operative, great breakfast. Thou we had side view rooms, copacabana view was excellent. Plus the chirst statue was visible too. Terrace bar and swimming pool are excellent. thou foud staff bit rude, other wise nice place to spend time with best view of copacabana. I suppose the hotel is almost in the center of the beach.

The only thing lacking was a private Balcony, which at USD 330 is a must.

Room Tip: Side Ocean view rooms are good.

Stayed here for 2 nights, but you can't really count the 1st one as we didn't get any sleep due to the room next door being extremely noisy late at night & early in the morning!! My wife politely told the lady on reception & she very kindly moved us up 5 floors into a quieter room. When checking out we nearly got charged for our 'upgrade' but eventually it was corrected. The breakfast is good & the location is great here... Maybe just don't go on a weekend?

I'm starting to speak portuguese; however for this email it needs to be in my first born language as I'm very impressed with the service that I needed to write a novel explaining it... so I'm really hoping that either you can translate this (using google translate) or understand english as this is something worth understanding.

First, I moved to Rio about 3 weeks ago from Sao Paulo working for a Company in Centro. I was planning on staying at the Arena Hotel for 3 months. I arrived at the hotel and the receptionists were sincere the place was modern and quite clean. I stayed on the top floor which was 'supposedly' the best rooms in the building. I layed on the bed and noticed some stains on the bed. Next, the beds are so hard that I nearly had to drink 8 caipirinhas to have a decent sleep. The pillows are incredibly hard as well that I went out to purchase my own. You're probably wondering why I didn't leave at this point, but we were working incredibly hard on a client (I work for Ernst and Young) and didn't have time to think about it until the following weekend. Regardless, the tipping point started when I asked reception if two friends could stay with me as they were flying from Sao Paulo to visit for the weekend. I was ensured that it wouldn't be a problem. They arrived and the reception would not let them stay because it was in the policy that only two people can be in one room. I politely told them that this was approved last week and it should be a problem.

Nearly, 30 minutes later I received a phone call after checking my friends in from the general manager of the hotel. Especially for a long-term customer I have never been treated with such disrespect. I was told that just because where I'm from you might be able to get your way, but here it doesn't work that way. Further, I was told that I wasn't telling the truth and I was causing problems in the hotel. If you are a fellow business traveler, have you ever thought that this was even possible. After being in shock over these words I checked out, informed by Company to never use their services again and moved to a flat in Ipanema. Luckily, all that remains is very bad memories!! Please, don't use this hotel and hopefully management will start treating customers with a little respect (and clean up their hotel as well)!!
