“Beautiful honeymoon and homey stay at Guesthouse Bianca”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2014

My husband and I reserved one of the smaller rooms (the Mango Room) for our honeymoon and we still felt like princes in that room. The villa and its grounds are carefully manicured and cared for by the owner, Guido, Allesandru, and the team of housekeepers, and from the moment you walk in, you feel like caring for the house and its guests is a labor of love.

Every morning we woke up excited about having breakfast - the incredible spread of freshly made eggs with pao do queijo (cheese bread), tapioca with jam, fresh fruit with granola topped off with fresh coffee and fresh guava juice. Over breakfast, we'd talk with the other people staying at the villa as well or ask Guido for advice on what to do in Rio that day or the easiest way to get where we needed to go. Whenever we got back to our room, we felt like we were coming back to our own home, as we talked quietly in the garden over the champagne Guido had surprised us with for our honeymoon, or just rested in our room after a long day.

We highly recommend this place to anyone staying in Rio for a warm, safe abode away from home.

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful. The sugarloaf room has the best view, however, and also comes with your...

Very friendly hosts that make you feel at home from the very first minute. The house itself, the nice rooms and the amazing views from the garden make this place the perfect location to relax after an exhausting day in the busy city. Breakfast is amazing and very social since all guests share a table. Santa Teresa is a very nice neighbourhood so you can easily do some activities by foot and even walk to some amazing restaurants.

Perfect - we stayed in the sugarloaf suite and the room was well appointed and spotless, with a lovely balcony and gorgeous views. The guesthouse is located in a nice area near good places to eat, just a 10 minute walk (easy downhill, harder uphill but moto taxis are available) from Gloria metro and a row of shops / taxis etc. The owner was friendly and relaxed, and the breakfast was fantastic with a wide variety of choices. Definitely a great choice, and it provides a tranquil respite from the rest of Rio.

My wife and I stayed at Guesthouse Bianca for one night in March 2014. We transferred there after a booking with another guesthouse had partially fallen through. The link with GH Bianca was made for us by the owner of our previous hotel and was recommended by him as a place that was highly recommended on Trip Adviser. Before transferring to GH Bianca we had not read the reviews on this website but we can now confirm everything positive that has already been said by other guests. The house itself, its location, and its accessibility are all excellent. The house is beautiful and our only regret on leaving was that we didn't spend longer there. Greatest praise must go to Guido, the owner. His help and advice were outstanding and we cannot praise him enough for making our time in Rio as enjoyable as it was. He is the perfect guesthouse host - polite, engaging, facilitating but never intrusive. We strongly recommend this guesthouse for your stay in Rio. We can confidently say that you will not be disappointed. Thank you Guido!

Wonderful place to stay: Beautifully restored period home, very clean, well organized. Lush gardens and porch with a breeze provide relaxation after long day touring Rio or enjoying beaches. Great views from upstairs. Santa Teresa is a trendy, bohemian community, with good restaurants, fabulous views of city. We never felt unsafe. Downside: it can be difficult to find taxi from Gloria metro stop/Lapa that will take you up to Santa Teresa. Going is no problem; easy 10 minute walk down to metro. Guido, owner of guesthouse, was a wonderful host: Friendly, very helpful with suggestions and advice. (My wife needed medical attention for travelers diarrhea. He spent half of his day driving us to his private hospital, to pharmacy and supermarket, making sure we were well cared for). If you want to avoid the expensive beach hotels and the craziness of Copacabana and Ipanema, then I would highly recommend Guesthouse Bianca.

Maybe Santa Teresa is not so mad outside of Carnival week, but Guesthouse Bianca offered us a place to feel relaxed, secure and special. The guesthouse is perched on top of one of the cobbled hills, with lovely views of Sugar Loaf and the distant bays. The house itself if beautifully cared for, with polished parquet floors, high ceilings and original features all over the place. Its gardens are lush and add to the privacy of the place, so when breakfast is served, you are secluded and feel like you are being pampered to your every need. Breakfast is great, fresh and tasty and the fresh juices are lovely. Try the Graviola juice - it's amazing!! (Thanks Guido). Guido is a great guy, very accommodating and helpful. Clearly very proud to own such an original home. We were there over Carnival week so stayed for the 4 night package. This gave us good time to explore Santa Teresa, and enough time to relax in our room or out on the tiled veranda. Our room, despite not being advertised as having a view, actually offers a nice view of the distant bay and, if you stick your head out the window, of Sugar Loaf. So that was a bonus. the room was lovely. Big, cool, high ceilings, amazing bathroom. The walk up the hill from Gloria metro is a bit of a trek- around 15 minutes, so get a bus or taxi if you are not feeling energetic. Also getting a taxi can be tricky as they don't like driving up the cobbled hills. A tip in this case is to say that you need to go to Rua Candido Mendes but do not mention Santa Teresa. When the taxi starts to drive up the hill tell him to carry on up. Take a right at the top of the hill when you see the tram lines and it's 1 minute down that road. The restaurants and little shops are 5 minute walk from the pousada. Thanks for a lovely stay Guido, see you in Ireland!! Carol & Ollie x

We enjoyed Rio and one of the main reasons is this beautiful place we stayed in. We did not want to leave after a few days because of how comfortable and relaxed we felt staying in such a splendid home.
Our host Guido was kind and friendly. He even drove us to the nearest taxi place one rainy evening when there were no taxis to pick us up from the guesthouse.

There was delicious Breakfast made available in the courtyard.

This place is in Santa Teresa a lovely part of Rio. This home is definitely a highlight in our visit to Rio. We Highly recommended that guests stay here especially following a day of sightseeing in Rio that can leave one feeling exhausted, this place is perfect for reenergising the mind and body.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Guesthouse Bianca is one of the only places in all of Rio de Janeiro from which you can enjoy a true bohemian neighborhood, the chic beaches of the south, the bustling city center, the infamous viewpoints, and the non stop nightlife - all from the luxury of a private home surrounded by a tropical garden.  The newly renovated home was built in 1932 and is located on a quiet residential street in the heart of Santa Teresa, considered by many to be the most charming cultural and historical neighborhood in all of Rio.  Guests are only a 5 minute walk to countless restaurants, bars, shops, bus and tram stops, and just a 10 minute walk to Rio's ever expanding metro system. The three rooms are exquisitely appointed and furnished, two of which boast stunning views of the Bay of Guanabara and Sugar Loaf.  The private guest entrance is through the lush garden, where you can find mango, coconut and goiaba trees, bromeliads, orchids, not to mention countless tropical birds and the occasional monkey. All of the rooms have elegant private bathrooms, inlaid hardwood floors, air conditioning, ceiling fans, and free wireless Internet. On the ground floor, guests have their own dining room and a self-catering kitchenette where they are welcome to prepare light meals and drinks.  Guesthouse Bianca's gracious host, Guido, is a native Cariocan and has lived in Rio all his life.  He speaks English, French and Italian and is always available to give tips on Rio, or join guests for a homemade piece of cake or a cachaca on the terrace. ... more   less
