“Awful”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 November 2012

No security to go in the hostel, no locks for the rooms, unfriendly and unhelpful staff, loud and unfriendly cleaning ladies, dirty bathrooms, dingy and crowded rooms, expensive tours advertised, had to pay for Internet, small social area, small eating area. Only good things were cheap caipirinhas from the friendly bartender, and decent breakfast. Would have been better if staff were actually friendly, but still would've been pretty bad.

I had an accident in the bathroom, the glass door of the shower crash suddenly and all my body was with little glass. My hands are damage, two hard cuts in my fingers.
IT´S NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS ACCIDENT HAPPENS!!!!
They must change to plastic!!!! So if you go there never have a shower in the bathroom downstairs (near room 8). People from the stuff are polite and gave me some help, especially the cleaning lady. Anyway they charge me the night and ruined my stay in Rio, you can´t swim or sunbathe when your hands are burning.
I stayed in bedroom 8, it´s not good: the roof isn´t tall enough and it´s wet.
The atmosphere is good.

Had stayed here during June 2011 with a friend of mine. It had a very good break fast and the rooms were decent. We stayed in one of the dorms and the dorms were clean and neat. The best part is it is 100 meters away from metro station and 600 - 700 meters from the beach ! The staffs were not very friendly and most of them are from Argentina and thus their service and behavior is quite understandable. Very good place to stay in Rio if you are looking for a economic backpacking hostel in center of Copacabana neighborhood.

Never stay there if you would like to have a good nights sleep there. The 2200 silent time was never been bothered by some of the tenants and duly enforced by the staff. People still talking loudly after midnights.. Some tenants back from party after 4 am and the worst thing was still blowing their hairs after their shower !.

The worst was actually the rooms were not properly ventialated and many bedrooms need to have the doors left open while sleeping at night. The presence of mosquitoes was another reason you really cant have a good night sleep there.

The dorms are small and with many beds in a room, the density is extremely high. It makes the hostel really noisy and not so clean at times.

The good thing about this hostel is of course its location. It is not far from the beach and its proximity to some restaurants, supermarkets and the Metro Station that makes it convenient to move around. The staff there is very helpful in giving information and suggestions.

The transfer to the international airport at 70 Bs$ per head arranged by the hostel was a bit expensive as based on my experience the car (not a taxi) was shared by two more ladies from another hostel located few km away ! So try to use the airport bus if you are not in a hurry or just go to the airport by a metered taxi and I was told by a local resident later that the taxi fare should be around 50+ Bs$ and the taxi is not SHARED by others.

Room Tip: All rooms are terrible I supposed. It does not make any difference if you are staying in a dorm.

If you would like a good nights sleep this is not the place to stay. Good location, Friendly staff. The chef cooks great food in the evenings and the breakfast is decent.

Almost perfect, but in the end it is a bit crowded. People and staff are great! Copacabana is near, and we got cheap caipirinhas at night :) I recommend to everybody! If you are a large group, 5-10 than this is great for you!

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 November 2011

In any big citites like Rio, it's always difficult to find a nice place, cheap and clean. Here the location is great (some blocks form Copacabana beach). It's easy to go anywhere in the city. Hosts are friendly. The bad things are the small dorms, too many dorms in one not so big place which makes it sometimes really noisy all along the night. An opened place where to relax is missing. The dorms and bathrooms are not so clean. Breakfast is ok, and you will have a caipi free while arriving.
