if you like quiet place : go to Pontal Hostel : far from Rio center but on a beautifull beach and far from the crowdy Copacabana beach... you can drive to Rio the day and to come back to the hotel the evening for a good rest ... it is not Copacabana Palace , but all you need , you have : good room , good shower, good AC, good breakfast, small nice swimming pool ... but the beach is so close, don't miss the sunrise and the sunset on the beach , no cars noise in front of the hotel : no street ... very very quiet , only the noise of the sea ... good night ... ( it is not a dream you are at Rio de Janeiro, Brasil ... )

Room Tip: ask for a sea view room, upstairs, 2nd floor, 3rd floor

I stayed at this hostel with about 30 friends for an event in Rio last week. Its been a little while since I stayed in a hostel, but from what I can remember, this one is definitely one of the better ones. It is brand new and just across the street from Macumba beach. I stayed in a room with space for 7...it can get kinda crowded with all the bunk beds and our extra luggage, but its certainly livable. As a tall person, I wish the bathroom stalls and the shower stalls were a little larger, but that was probably my only complaint. Loved the hammocks where you could lose hours reading or napping and the pool area was very relaxed. Breakfast was fresh and good every single morning (if only I could get that French bread back home!) and there was always someone on staff to get you snacks or a beer (for a price) during the day/evening.
Speaking of the staff..they were simply wonderful! Very nice, very welcoming and very accommodating. They took the time to answer every question I had and if I had any issue, they addressed it right away.

The location is a bit from the central tourist track in Zona Sul so if this is your first time in Rio, you may want to stay a little closer to the action. But if you've visited Rio before and don't have to make another trip to Pao de Acucar and Cristo Redentor, then this is a great spot. The beach is clean and pretty and the area seemed quite safe day and night. I would definitely come back here, though hopefully staying in the private penthouse room that had a great perch above all the action.
