The location cant be questioned, but the rooms and general décor is very tired , food is OK rates very expensive for what you get.
the first room I was given could only be described as a cell , no natural light and room décor well below standard, good enough the reception moved me to another floor with more natural light and slight more upbeat room décor.

Room Tip: don't get a room below level three

I've had the opportunity to stay at this hotel several times for business and last month with my wife for pleasure. It has never disappointed. The staff is excellent and provides extra service by anticipating a guests needs. The property was not originally built as a Marriott hotel so it's a smaller property with smaller rooms but the location, amenities and service compensate. If room with water view available it's a plus but it's just as great to spend time on the roof where you can get a glimpse of Christo Redeemer and a panorama view of Copacabana beach and Sugar Loaf and swim in the warm hotel pool. Gym on roof is great as well as the small spa. Above all it's the staff that make this one of my top hotel picks in the world.

I'm surprised that Marriott still has their name on this hotel.
This hotel should have been renovated ten years ago (see pictures). It's like no one cares anymore about the customers experience. The service is bad - we arrived after midnight and we had to wait for 20 min until the clerk arrived to check us in. The room - specifically bathroom and the beds - were dirty and so in need of renovation that it looked dangerous for the guests (electrical plugs falling apart and ceiling falling down). I stay up to 50 nights at hotels pr. year and this is the worst value for money I have experienced for many, many years.

Staff is very good, location very good, but rooms are too small, very expensive , and Molding on the walls.
I would rethink staying there for the price they are charging
I did not stay in the rooms facing the beach, but all other rooms does not face the outside of the Hotel only the inside. and there is no day or night light

Room Tip: If you choose a room , only with beach view the other are not worth paying for

Love our stay at the JW Marriott on the beach at Copacabana. Step out the door and you're right in the action of the Copacabana beach scene. The hotel offers beach chairs and umbrellas on the beach to soak up the sun and fun. The rooms are well appointed. Try to get an ocean view room to enjoy the spectacular location even more. The Executive/Club level is a treat. Ricardo is a gem with the staff at the Club helping us to learn a few words of the language. Also, he makes a mean caipirinha. Kudos to the great staff at JW Marriott in Copacabana!

Our stay at the JW Marriott Copacabana Beach in December 2013 was a wonderful ending to our 18-day cruise. Not only were we across from the world-famous beach, but we also had a room with a view. We were welcomed by a very friendly and competent staff and the young man who brought our luggage to our room explained all of its functions with great exuberance. Our room was beautifully maintained and meals (both in room and in the lobby) were quite good. Concierge services were very professional and attentive. Even the doorman gave good advice about using sunscreen. We chose Marriott because we know they are a quality brand and they lived up to their reputation. Definitely deserving of a return visit.

Room Tip: Definitely book a room with a view of the beach.

My wife and I left our Oceania Cruise one day early to get a chance to stay in town rather then spend another night on the ship. I choose the Marriott on Copacabana Beach because I stayed there for business 11 years ago not long after it first opened. I remember how well I was treated during my 12 day stay. It's location is perfect. Step out the front door and the beach is a few steps away. Fancy a long walk and you can make it to Leblon and Impanema Beach as well. The roof top pool and views are a delight. The staff went overboard to make sure our brief stay was just as we wanted. Service was spot on. We requested a late check out for 6PM the next day because we had a late night flight back to the US. I offered to pay for the extra time but the front desk checked with one of the managers and they let us stay without any additional costs. We ate a few light meals in the lobby bar and food and service were good. There are plenty of restaurants near by but after an 18 day cruise food was not at the top of the list. This Marriott confirms my view that they are clearly at the top of their game. Highly recommended!
