The hotel is very expensive and my room (Double room) was very small and old, with an old red moquette on the floor. The position is good but you can have a better stay other hotels for the same price.

The service and facilities at the Sofitel on Copacabana beach are some of the best I have experienced.
The staff were all helpful, they spoke many languages (to varying degrees) - I heard portuguese, spanish, french and english. Free still or sparkling water was replenished in my room throughout the day, and was provided poolside or on the beach. A complementary fruit salad was delivered poolside or on the beach at lunchtime. I was offered fresh towels in the room at least once during the day aside from the morning servicing.
Location-wise, the hotel is right on the beach and rooms have small balconies with 2 chairs (some rooms overlook the beach and others the pool in the back). The rooms are not massive but more than adequate - I had a large bed, flat screen TV, massive armchair, desk and desk chair. The bathroom had a waterfall shower head (water pressure was not the best) - no bath in my room (but too hot for a bath anyway).
There were 2 small-ish pools - with deckchairs surrounding to catch the morning and then afternoon sun. There were deckchairs, umbrellas and towels on the beach as well. The food was good - drinks were perhaps a little pricey, but that comes with the quality of the hotel.
I will most definitely go back to the Sofitel in Copacabana.

Room Tip: I selected a beach view which I recommend. This had mid-day sun only, but that was all I needed.

Just back from a magnificent Rio de Janeiro New Years holiday. When planning for this trip, our 1st task was to choose our location. Copacabana beach was highly recommended and the location was perfect. When choosing the hotel in Rio, safety and cost were our priorities. By the reviews of other travellers and our needs, Sofitel was selected. In our opinion Sofitel was well situated and provided us with the comforts that we expected. The beaches in Brazil are public and well used by local, and Copacabana beach is no exception. All of the hotels along the beach are across the street and are not directly on the beach as in the case of other resorts in other countries. Hotel security, in addition to a local police maning station situated on the public road outside of the hotel made the security at the hotel even more reassuring. Our booking consisted of the Club Millesime privelages. From exclusive check-in to check-out, concierge service, breakfast in the club lounge, 24 hour prompt service, internet services, evening wine tasting, to mention a few, our stay at the hotel was what we expected. Situated on the top floor of the hotel (8th floor), our room overlooked the beach and 1 of the 2 pools. This provided us with beautiful views of the beach, mountains and city street from our room patio. Cllients of the Club Millesime privelages had breakfast served on the top floor of the hotel, in a well appointed varanda or inside the main room area. Fresh fruit, fresh juice, fresh breads, cold cuts, cheeses, eggs made to order, etc, and various coffees were provided to you in a friendly, professional, prompt manner. The rooms were well appointed. We found the rooms to be clean, fresh smelling and comfortable. Mini bar was always well stocked and 90% complimentary. The service was excellent, employees very helpful and prompt and I found that they understood what their roll were and who the client was. My overall opinion of Softifel was excellent and I would stay there again. So if visiting Rio and the Sofitel meets your budget, staying there would be an excellent choice. Enjoy your travels in Rio!!!

Room Tip: Club Millesime is highly recommended.

The hotel does need some upgrading which I saw happening in some rooms, but overall my staying at the Sofitel Copacabana was very satisfactory. The staff were very professional, courteous and helpful. Nicole at the concierge on the Executive Floor could not have been more pleasant and attentive. The room was a bit small, but very comfortable and clean. Everything worked fine. If you can, stay on the Executive Floor where there is an open bar, breakfast buffet and afternoon tea every day. Plus the view on this floor is really beautiful.

Room Tip: Rooms on the Executive Floor are a plus.
