We just stayed 6 nights at the Windsor Atlantica in Rio. While it wasn't terrible, it wasn't 5 stars by any reasonable definition. It might squeeze Into 4 stars using European or US standards.

Examples include:
- the room has a single threadbare towel per person
- finish of the bathroom very cheap; no tissues provided anywhere
- both the rooftop pool and the beach ran out of towels entirely on more than one occasion, and the seats or sand were way too hot to lie on so we had to give up our plans 3 times; the excuse was that the hotel was full for new year's, but this is no excuse for an alleged 5 star hotel, which should plan better
- worst of all, the plumbing is very poor; every time we returned to the room, it smelled of sewage. We complained several times but all they did was send a maid with a lemon spray, whereas clearly the pipes were backed up. Yuck.

To balance that all out, I should mention the positives:
- location is really super, with a stunning view of copacabana beach
- the people are all very friendly and try to be helpful (when they haven't run out of towels or can't find us a less stinky room)
- the breakfast buffet is really well done, both delicious and plentiful.

Overall, it was ok for a 3 or maybe 4 star hotel, but I wouldn't ever come back at 5 star prices.

The hotel has a stunning view and a fantastic location between Leme and Copacabana, right in front of the beach.
Having breakfast in the morning is a nightmare! Very crowded, even if the variety of the food is great. I was surprised to see that a colleague of mine had a room with Nespresso machine, while my room didn't have it. Fantastic roof pool with amazing view.

This hotel is in a great location and has wonderfully helpful and friendly staff. The rooms are very variable in size so it's worth checking what you are getting, however the staff on the front desk are so eager to help and please that you will find what you need if it's at all possible. The same can be said for the restaurant and pool-bar staff. It was a pleasure to stay there.

We were truly disappointed by the poky bedroom and tight bathroom. No view except of next door building. Breakfast was good, rooftop pool area nice (but too windy when we there - December). Overall, it smacked of a business, functional hotel. No character or soul. It was well located and on Copacabana beach - however, if I were to come to Rio again I would head for Ipanema or Leblon - much nicer areas. Cheap cabs everywhere but so much traffic.

Room Tip: A standard double is poky, small, cramped - so buy big!
