We had a double and a suite and both rooms were very nice - had a problem with the AC the first night in the suite but it was fixed quickly. Rooms were quiet and OH, that view - hard to top that. We loved the international crowd in the hotel. Breakfast buffet amazing - my young adult kids were in heaven. I had to work one day and the wifi was fast and i was able to get things done fairly quickly. We had a lunch and a late dinner at the pool bar and found it to be quite pleasant. A respite from the craziness of Copacabana. Beach lovely - water so warm - went only 2 days since i had to work one - 2nd day, the attendant gave away my chair and umbrella even though it had my bag and pareo on it but problem was worked out quickly. We would definitely return - have to say i went over to the ***** hotel next door and had a drink and decided I was so glad we weren't staying there. Porto Bay much more charming for sure. Only problem in the hotel is that elevators are slow so have to plan a little extra time for this. We used the freight elevator a couple of times. Staff was very helpful

Room Tip: definitely get an ocean view - we were maybe on the 14th floor

Just returned from a fabulous trip to Argentina and Brazil. We stayed at the Porto Bay hotel right across the street from the famous Copacabana Beach! Although there is a lot of action going on across the street, the hotel is quiet and a peaceful respite from the crowds. The rooms are comfortable, but the hallways are dark and narrow and the elevator is very small. That's really not that such of a big deal, because the hotel makes up for that in bounteous fresh breakfasts every morning and a small, but luxurious top of hotel pool, bar and restaurant. It was so nice to sit out there during the day and in the evening to watch the sunset and drink cold drinks. The hamburgers and fries are fabulous! THe staff was very helpful, even telling us to go down the street to get better "change" than they could give us. All in all, a comfortable and not pretentious place to stay in Rio.

An excellent hotel overlooking Copacabana beach. Helpful staff, excellent breakfast but the best bit is the rooftop pool and bar with scenic views over Rio. The beach service of a lounger, towel and brolly makes you feel like a millionaire. Our room was long and narrow and, strangely had three beds but not a problem.

Room Tip: Ask fr a balconyoverlookinghe beach.

Good location on Copacabana beachfront. Exceptional breakfast both in terms of variety and quality. We had a spacious room with balcony, clean & regularly serviced. Staff at every level from reception to doorman helpful and friendly. Only disappointment was the pool & top deck were closed for renovations when we were there in November. Umbrellas & beach beds on the beach provided by the hotel. Stayed for a week.

We stayed for 6 days after coming from São Paulo. The hotel is positioned in front of Copacabana beach. It took 2 min for the check-in and 2 min for the check-out, perfect service with the registration. Front desk very helpful always. The room, was excellent, the bed was gorgeous with nice linen. The air condition worked properly. Don't miss the 20th floor, rooftop, you have a beautiful pool, with a fantastic view over all Copacabana beach and it has a good Sushi Bar. They are finishing the fitness area on the roof top, it will be an absolutely amazing place.
We stayed on the 7th floor and from our balcony we could watch the movement of Copacabana at all hours, if you prefer no noise ask for the higher rooms. I loved the movement.
We can not forget it is a 4 star hotel but much better then some of the 5 stars that we can get here in Rio.
Will come back.

Room Tip: The higher the less noise from the road, but still I preferred my 7th floor. Front rooms and suites...

I saw reviews about the outdated bathrooms. Who cares? You have floor to ceiling glass ceilings looking at the most beautiful beach In Rio. Great location, spacious room, lots of help with restaurants and activities from the front desk. Who could ask for more? Loved the location and glad we didn't splurge for the more expensive Copacabana Palace (2 hotels down). Lovely rooftop pool, small but so what?

We stayed here for 2 days during a stopover in Rio. This somewhat dated hotel is brilliantly positioned on Copacabana Beach, just along from the Copacabana Palace. We arrived at 2.30am, and registration was seamless. We had a good stay and found the hotel very convenient for the beach, restaurants and accessibility to the major tourist attractions.
On reaching our room ( Deluxe with king bed and balcony and sea view) on the 8th floor, we found a spacious area with separate lounge and sleeping areas. The lighting in the bedroom section was very poor and hard to see anything at night...OK in the daytime with light from outside. The lounge area was spacious with a small dining table, a 2 seater sofa and somewhat bedraggled shag rug! The TV had no reception at all but as we were not there to watch TV I did not report it to reception, but it does suggest that Quality Control is absent.
Shortly after unpacking, we discovered a fault with the toilet ( continuous flushing water after use) and reported this to Reception.....after about 30 minutes the engineering staff member arrived and fixed it up...no further problems!
Our room had a balcony, facing the beach and the view and ambience was superb. Some noise from the never ending Rio party in the street below but not enough to cause a problem.
We both thought that the room could do with a thorough 'spring clean' and some refurbishment with improved lighting. The bathroom area was a bit small. The shower was situated within a bathtub with very high sides and a narrow glass shower screen entrance to the tub....very difficult if one had any mobility problems ( bad knees or obese). The reception staff were very helpful with useful suggestions and a very friendly manner: made excellent dining recommendations and good advice re transport etc.
The breakfast area overlooks the beach and is quite adequate as is the buffet style breakfast.
We were very pleased that the rooftop pool and bar area were open ( recently closed for renovations) as this was a terrific place to rest, have a beer and a snack, dip into the small pool, and lounge around with views of the beach and mountains. The pool area staff were also most attentive.
Overall we thought that the hotel was a bit faded, needed a facelift and the rooms needed refurbishing, but our stay was comfortable and the position amazing. Given the very high prices of hotels in this beach area, it was probably reasonable value.

Room Tip: Sea view room with balcony is best
