I highly recommend staying at the Belmond Copacabana Palace during your time in Rio. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are spacious with views of Copacabana beach.

An added perk is a secluded, locked room in order to withdraw and exchange money to avoid doing so at the airport.

The service was excellent. We could not have asked for anything more with the breakfast buffet as well. If we return to Rio, we definitely would stay here again.

Dear Madam,
I must say that it is always very gratifying to know that we were able to provide an excellent experience. Indeed, among the compliments mentioned, our breakfast is greatly appreciated.
Best wishes and I do hope you come back soon!

The hotel structure is great and it is VERY CHIC! Ambiance, architecture, common areas... Our room was also great, Deluxe Ocean Front! Location is not the best in Rio, but the hotel is close to domestic airport and downtown (in case you are traveling for business) and not far from Ipanema beach. Copacabana beach is not bad, but is not the trendiest one in Rio.

We were also very positively impressed by pool area, SPA and dinning options - by far the best in hotels in Rio. During the season we went (mid June), the pool was mostly under the shade, but weather was great. Be aware the pool was cold, assuming outside temperature. We were not sure if the hotel was full, but overall pool ambiance was very quiet.

Overall hotel maintenance is awesome, assuming building age - we noticed works being done everywhere to keep it in good conditions - and for us this is necessary. We like to see when maintenance is being done and it doesn’t bother us at all (at the time we were there, the pool side facade of the main building was being painted).

We were disappointed with hotel service. We couldn’t say it doesn’t work properly, but it is cold and not as good as the other Belmond hotel in Brazil (Hotel das Cataratas - see our review). Checkin and checkout was very cold and we didn’t feel at a 5 stars hotel - as an example, no help with luggage or transportation were offered. Nor water or welcome amenities... Also, no complimentary water in the room at arrival. Pool service was slow - same as in breakfast. Service was not bad, but we had better service experience in other 5 star hotels in Rio.

Room on the 2nd floor, facing the ocean was great, VERY spacious, high ceiling, with 2 small balconies and a very large walk-in closet. Some of the furniture had scratches, but overall maintenance was very good. Classic decor, with a modern touch. Toiletries and mini bar products had very good quality. Very discrete and good housekeeping.

Bathroom was big with separate bathtub and shower and two sinks. However, shower water had a bad smell and sometimes no hot water... yes, no hot water, even if waited more than 10 minutes...

Not sure if rooms not facing ocean or pool worth the stay, but ours was great. Also we didn’t understand why the newer building has no covered liaison with main building (or we couldn’t see one).

We noticed negative things in common areas that we need to highlight: guest have access to ball rooms as well as meeting rooms with no control. That said, we were able to reach very dark and messy places, including a construction site... very bad for hotel image. Also, pool bathroom is very small and shared with restaurants, something not pleasant. Also pool bathroom was not in very clean conditions. We know is something very common in old hotel buildings, but a stair at hotel entrance (between reception and elevators) is never a good thing.

We liked the beach service, but we wondered to know why the sunbeds are placed so far from the sea... As you will have to buy drinks and food from third parties, sometimes is better to rent their chairs/sunbeds as they are placed closer to the sea.

One thing we wanted to better understand: nobody asked our room number when checking in to the pool. Why that? Also, the pool side restaurant may be used by outsiders, with no control. We hope they improve controls, mainly during peak season, avoiding outsiders to join the pool (this also raises a security yellow flag, assuming Rio is not a safe city).

As said, the hotel is great, but we expected a 5 stars stay with warmer and better service and hot water in the room... As our stay was not long we didn’t have enough time to report the issues before departure.

Stayed here a couple of times, run conferences here - it is a legend, that the owners have continued to invest in, and upgrade - not letting age show through.
Cocktails by the pool, in front of the Copacabana beach - a classic. Not sure about the restaurants - classic hotel, they are better places to eat

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for sending your very positive feedback. One aspect you pointed out was about the "Copa's" age. Indeed in last august, we celebrated 95 years of foundation. And we are very proud and happy.
Best wishes,

For such a large place, Rio has a small hotel market. Undoubtedly, the Belmond Copacabana Palace is the grande dame of the city. The hotel is old school luxury, superbly maintained and has all of the amenities you'd expect. The classic Copacabana beach is right in front and the hotel has staff with chairs. There's a friendly american guy that has a nearby beach bar with $2.50 Antartica beers, which I found to be quite enjoyable. We went during August so the pool was empty but a good place to read or nibble. The hotel has 3 restaurants. I found the Cipriani's service to be impeccable but the tabs pricey. The Asian restaurant has a large menu, good prices and a Michelin star apparently. All told, it was a lovely stay and would recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: Ask for a beach facing room.

Many cities have their anchor hotels like the Olympic in Seattle or The Palmer House in Chicago. This seemed to be that for Rio.

Good: Great Italian and Asian Fusion dining, spacious, high-ceiling rooms, super location across from the beach, friendly, helpful staff, nice pool, breakfast buffet included.

Potential improvements: Staff seemed overly cautious of security situation (I.e. take a private car instead of a taxi.)

Cool highlight: take the elevator to the Salons / Ballrooms level and check out all of the photos and signatures of past guests from Sartre to movie stars to royalty.

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for sending your outstanding opinion. Indeed I could notice the examples of other hotels in specic cities in comparison to our "Copa". And I paid attention to your observations of our gastronomy and team as well as our famous gallery of portraits. And regarding you mentioned about security, please accept my apologies for any inconvenience. It is not usual but I will follow to the responsible management.

All the best,
