If one is accustomed to walking, The hotel is within walking distance of the beach. The hotel is in a beautiful location. The gym is small. Pool is nice. Good front office check-in. Breakfast was okay.

Room Tip: Ask for room with view of beach.

The hotel is right at the beach. The beach is nice because is kind of private, but still public. There is some waves and some people surfing in one of the corners.
The hotel has been reformed and the rooms look so much better now, even the exterior looks better. The food is good and they have Acai at the Cachaca lounge.
The pool is also nice and they have some Jacuzzis and sport areas. The gym is small but enough, actually is so much better so run and exercise along the beach as Brazilians do.
You can get transport from the hotel or ask for a taxi. Is 5 min from the main beach in Leblon and 10 mins or so from Ipanema.

Beautiful location, with beautiful room, beautiful private beach and an outstanding front office team... But im afraid it ends up there! Very disappointed with the taxi service provided by the hotel... Night supervisor (peruvian or chilean) extremely rude and passes people going further in front of you without even saying sorry, after you wait 20 minutes for the promised car. Food and Beverage department... Big downfall here! StAff doesnt know their product/menu, theres no consistency and no willing to go the extra step! Ordered a Burger at casa da cachaça and asked for bbq sauce! Walter told me They dont have and i said "YeS but you have everyday at the casarão!" (Which was open) and still didnt get the sauce! At Casarão arrived at 10pm and the Only 2 waiters were worried about breaking up the set up to go home than greet me and serve me Water (That Took 15 minutes). KUDOS for Roberto from the Pool bar! Great character!
Overall a good hotel but does not worth its price, even as SPG member may try Fasano next time!

The Sheraton Rio was a fabulous hotel... You really couldn't ask for more. The staff were still chirpy after a late arrival and we had a fabulous room with phenominal views over the private beach. we liked the pool area as even though it was child friendly it was still very relaxing (which we needed after a trip to the Amazon).

The beach was also a nice touch to the hotel as it was not as crowded as ipanema but still stunning.
The bar was very nice and not too crowded. We could actually get a seat :)) The staff I found to be attentive and always asking if we needed anything else.

The location was not as close to Ipanema beach as you would hope but you could still catch a cab!

We would stay again if we returned to this part of Brazil

I just saw the 67% approval rating for this hotel as I signed to write my review and here is what I have to say. This hotel is great and that rating should be 100% based on our experience. I am an SPG Gold member and my wife and I stayed on a preferred guest floor, but we didn't upgrade beyond that and our room was clean, beautiful and spacious. We stayed there just before the start of the World Cup and the hotel was putting the finishing touches on renos to the spa, gym and Sheraton Link but everything was open and available to use. First the location, I was told by a friend who had visited Rio that it was close to a favela so was a bit worried. No need to worry folks. The people from Vidigal are just that people, they don't bother you, you will only know they are close by looking out from your balcony or visiting the Sheraton's semi-private beach on a weekend, when they like everyone in Rio come down to the water to play. They politely leave the beachfront in front of the Sheraton for guests to enjoy undisturbed, and are not menacing in any way, which you will appreciate as you look over at Leblon and Ipanema beaches which are packed with bodies on the sand. Give our best to Wilson the only beach vendor we saw selling sarongs, he's cool. The hotel is well situated only minutes by car from Leblon beach, walking distance if you are so inclined. The views from the restaurants and staff are superb as is the food. We ate dinner at Cachaca/Pizza Place, Casarao, L'Etoile and had breakfast at Bene. One thing we have experienced in our travels is the quality of the dining options at a Sheraton (SPG hotel) exceed the quality of the meals you will find outside the hotel . Well done SPG - keep up the good work. A special mention for L'Etoile for the service and food which is unrivalled anywhere - simply the best meal I have ever had in my life - I will forever by dreaming about the amuse bouche, trio of angus beef, and apple tart with caipirinha sorbet, which is so good we had a second helping with mango sorbet. The Club floor lounge was smaller than some we have been in but was beautifully decorated, and guests are made to feel welcome by the incomparable Agnaldo, with his warm smile and great charm. I can't thank everyone by name but additional special mention to Lucy@Cachaca, Renata and Rafael M.at the concierge for being simply outstanding and reliable. All of you made Rio a place to remember and the hotel the place we would come back to.

Just spent 6 days at this hotel right on the coast in Leblon. Typical Sheraton - great rooms, reasonable food and good facilities. Only downside is the location - you cannot step out of the hotel and just walk down the main seafront - you need a cab to get down to Leblon and Ipenema beachfronts.
Stayed on the Sheraton Club floor - soundproofing is poor: you hear everytime someone else enters or exits a room nearby, (and staff like to keep their radios turned up too)
Safe and secure, and well managed, but possibly not, due to location, my 1st choice for Rio

The hotel is in a great location and service was good. The rooms were spotless and had good facilities, were spacious but a little tired. I had a large balcony on looking the see which was ideal. It doesn't have a huge amount of character but it's ideal for the beach.
