We stayed at the Aeroporto Othon Travel Hotel in Rio de Janeiro just for one night while we waited for our connection flight from Rio de Janeiro Int'l Airport and that was a nightmare. First of all, we wouldn't stay for more than 6 hours at the hotel and I asked them for an early check-in what was actually denied (Check in time was 3pm and we arrived there at 1pm). The lady at the front desk was quite rude and seemed to be unaware of my prepaid reservation. I also saw some people being checked in before time while we waited in the moldy lobby before a 1900's TV set. Second of all, the hotel is very very old, everything seems to be from 40's or 50's, starting with the elevator, it really freaked me out, you can't get on it by yourself and it takes hours to someone from the front desk go up and pick you up. The bedroom couldn't be different. It smells like mold, it's dark and furniture needs some renovation. The bed is small, even though we had a king room and the mattress is horrible, I tried unsuccessfully to sleep for a couple of hours and it really killed me, I'd rather sleep at a hostel bunk than in that hotel bed.
Neighborhood is okay, metro station to the South zone of Rio is next door and the property is next to the domestic airport from where you can go to the Int'l Airport by public transportation (it's BRL 11 and takes 30min). I would strongly recommend you stay somewhere else, there are several better hotels in the area with greater deal, actually I spent a little fortune to stay at this creepy hotel. Take my advice, STAY AWAY from Aeroporto Othon Travel while in Rio de Janeiro.

Room Tip: You'd better stay somewhere else in the neighborhood, try Ibis Hotel, they have some great deals

We traveled here a while back, but our experience is what matters now.

The hotel is super close to one of the airports, I think it took us less than 20 minutes to get there. There are a lot of buildings around but not a lot of food. If you are someone who likes to walk, then you won't mind doing to to get around and get to some neat places. In the daytime, I do not mind going outside but I wouldn't feel as comfortable going out at nighttime.

The service was great, one of the men working there spoke a little Spanish and we were able to understand each other (I will guess they also speak English) and he was very helpful.

The room, well, I am not sure if this was the weather or what was it but it didn't feel right. We were on the 3rd floor and even though I had a nice view, it felt musty. The furniture was decent, but don't come in expecting a 5 star hotel.

If you are one of the kind who blends with the locals and travel using public transportation, there is a bus stop around the block.

The Aeroporto Othon Travel Hotel near Santos Dumont Airport, Rio de Janeiro offers (if you have the correct room) splendid views of the Pao de Acucar and the Corcovado. Meals are more than satisfactory. It is a business hotel and such not really suitable for young families. However it is very conveniently located to Centro and great for access to Rio's downtown nightlife. You also have proximity to the underground at Cinelandia. The staff were excellent, always smiling and always willing to help. The lift porters are charming and deserve generous tips. The bedrooms are immaculate and have minibar. The staff make all the difference and for that reason I would definitely consider this hotel again if visiting Rio de Janeiro.

The word most describes this hotel is just old.
The elevator is hand-operated like in the "Titanic", thin walls, noisy air conditioner, and the bath room was half broken.
free wifi is restricted only at 1st floor lobby.
staffs are really kind enough to giving us advise.
Near from the Cinelandia station and Lapa.
good for students or backpackers.

Room Tip: sometimes elevator is not available, so 2nd or 3rd floor might be easier to access.

Unfortunately the hotel was booked and paid by my client. Terrible is not enough to describe it.

It is old, it is literally falling apart. It is dirty, dreadful, the bed smells, the bathroom is so disgusting I was afraid of touching anything. There is dust and mold everywhere. I had to wear sandals to take a shower, because the floor was so moldy and dirty I was afraid to get a disease.

I ordered room service (there is no restaurant in the hotel or nearby - the room service choices are quite limited and unbelievably expensive). I ordered a cheeseburger and they said they did not have it. They offered me a "misto quente" (bread with ham and cheese) which costs R$ 28 !!!!

Then I decided to order a simple spaghetti with plain white sauce. They told me it would take one hour te get ready !!! I almost offered to go down and cook myself a decent meal, but I decided to wait... I received the most untastefull dish, with an industrialized sauce on top of a over-cooked pasta. Not enough, when finishing the dish I found an insect on it !

The service is terrible, the elevator makes you pray for your life. Checking-out was another problem. My client was supposed to take care of the bill, and the recepction would not have me to leave. I was supposed to leave earlier for a meeting. I asked the reception to call my client. They said they did it and nobody was answering the phone. So I left anyway. Later on, my client said nobody had called him. He was at his room working and the telephone did not ring once !

There is no free internet, you have to pay like R$ 25 to use it (I didn`t).

As already written, the AC is noisy and you can`t sleep. By the middle of the night, there was a huge noise of machines. There are no curtains and you are awaken at 5 AM by the sun.

Room Tip: To get a good room, please try to find another hotel

Disgusting doesn't even start to discribe it! It was awful, nasty, dingy. Worst night of my life! Look at the pics I posted.

It's stopped in time around the 1950's and had no maintenance since. The rooms smell funny, the bathroom is old and moldy, the noise of the AC and the minibar won't let you sleep AND THERE'S NO CURTAIN TO KEEP THE SUN AWAY!!!

On the night I was there - Sept 22nd, 2012 - there was no electricity and I had to climb 5 floors on my own, in the middle of the night. There was no AC and the room was smelly and stuffy. At 5am, when the sun came out the run was all lit up with light.
Still, the price is on the stratosphere.
The staff is too embarassed about the situation but can do nothing to help guests.

I stayed in this hotel during the carnival 2012. The staff there are fantastic can't fault them in ay way. From reception to house maids. At reception there wasn't anything they wouldn't help with. Giving directions, recommendations and even teaching us Portuguese.

Rooms need updating but clean. Air con noisy but def needed.

If you just want a clean place to crash with no frills this is it

Has no fitness room or pool. Wifi free in reception area.
