Rio is an amazing place! We traveled to Rio from 03/29/12-04/09/12. It was a perfect amount of time to see alot!

Hotel - Clean and nice. Checking in we had a bit of an issue, they kept delaying the check in time. The front desk resolved the issue. Our room was clean and spacious. Housekeeping was excellent, leaving us a little treat everynight. The pool was on the roof, we only made it up there to take pictures of the beautiful views(the ocean was a much better option). The staff was friendly, and most spoke English. There was a huge language barrier in Rio for us, so we appreciated the hotel staff helping us with maps and suggestions on places to go. The bartender, Cleidiston Celeres, was THE BEST!!! He was so friendly, had a great personality, and really helped make our trip amazing. He made suggestions on maps, told us where to go, how to get there, and just overall is a great person. He is a HUGE asset to the Hotel Marina Palace.

Sugar Loaf Mountain...definitely a must-see! The views were incredible. We took the tram car to the top. It was great.

Christ the Redeemer - MUST DO! We took the cog train up the mountian to the statue, definitely a better option, rather than taking a cab. We took in some amazing views on the way up and down the mountain. The statue is breathtaking and something everyone should see in their lifetime. Absolutely beautiful.

Circo Voader - Foster the People were staying in our hotel, got to meet them. Went to their concert here. We enjoyed it.

Scuba Diving - Great!! We did our first ever dive here and came home to get certified. It took about 2 hours to get to the dive boat, but well worth the trip.

Botanical Gardens - Very interesting place. I recommend seeing if you have time.

We will definately make it back to Rio, and would stay at this hotel again.

The location is to die for, bang slap on Leblon beach, one of the best locations in Rio. However the hotel is old and has had little to no investment in the last few years. It needs millions of $ to get it up to what it should be. The 3 lifts are erratic to say the least and there are 26 floors so if you are near the top you could be in trouble. Noisy and inefficient air conditioning, Very erratic internet service. Expensive and poor breakfast. All hotels in Rio are expensive at the moment but there are better choices on Ipanema where the owners have invested in improving the rooms and services. The bar and small pool on the roof, floor 27, is very nice.

Room Tip: Go for sea view on mid level floors.

I agree with some other reviews. First the good: The Marina Palace benefits from an excellent location in Leblon - around the corner from the hip restaurants of Rua Duas Ferreira and the beach. Some of the bedrooms have a good view of the beach up to Ipanema. Breakfast is pretty plentiful with fruit, cakes and limited hot options and Jessica was always on hand to say hello.

The not-so-good. My major gripe was with the lifts. These 3 must date from around the 1960's judging by their speed. At times it took about 5-7 minutes to call one -which when you are on the 20+ floor the stairs aren't really an option. This was particularly bad at breakfast time and after work ( I was there for business). They really need to be sorted out or have some more installed. They are also noisy and could be heard from the rooms opposite.
Internet in rooms - I don't understand how ANY hotel these days can make a charge for wifi connections. At R$40 per day this isn't cheap. I seriously recommend management look at altering this policy.
The bathrooms were pretty basic - I had real trouble with the showers - particularly in regulating temperature and the fact that you couldn't change the angle of the head. MINE barely had room to get in to use the toilet without closing the door. Also the shades of brown they are currently decorated in does draw them back to that 1960's era. Roof terrace is tiny -more a spa bath than a pool and the gym was just 2 machines - but you have the beach to work out on.

I had no trouble with language although I know my colleague who spoke no portugese got frustrated.

To sum up, its in the better end of the Rio hotels. Not up to the Fasano standards, but it functions perfectly well and is compensated by the location.

I really hope the hotel steps up to meet the challenges it will have from tourists arriving for the World Cup and Olympics. For business I would recommend.

Room Tip: Corner rooms had good views and seemed less noisy.

This is a great hotel in a great location. Really couldn’t ask for more. We got this hotel as a timeshare trade for 8 nights. We asked for an upper level facing the ocean ahead of time and when we checked in it wasn’t ready (as were a lot of other rooms judging from the amount of luggage in the entryway). We were told that the room would be ready at 2pm which is check in time and it was. The room as great on the 23rd floor.
The rooftop pool on the 26th floor of the hotel is small but very nice with a nice view of the beach. It is open from 8am to 10pm so that you can see a sunset but not a sunrise.

Helpful hotel hints:
• There is no coffee maker in the room but there is a nice size refrigerator.
• We were told that you shouldn’t drink the water from the tap by the hotel. We asked where to buy some and they told us that we can purchase water at the Shell station one block behind us.
• The Shell station was our supply outpost. They have everything in there! Wine, beer, liquor, water, snacks at the Brazilian equivalent of McDonalds called Bobs. They also have an ATM in there.
• We did not get breakfast included and were told that it was $22 US. We declined to eat there and found other places.
• You will either need to get electric adaptors or ask the hotel for them. We got the hotel to bring up two for us.
• If you have a lot of things to plug in, as we did, bring an “octopus cord” so that you can charge several items with one adapter.
• Water: we bought the big bottles of water at the Shell station behind the hotel and then just kept refilling small bottles and cooling them in the refrigerator each night for the next day.

I just stayed at the Marina Palace in Leblon, Rio de janeiro, Brazil for one week.
The location is great, the room clean and nice but mostly the service is the best ever.
All employes of the hotel are very friendly, helpful and nice and allways with a smile to serve the guests.
I hope to go back to this hotel next time I visit Rio.

This hotel has good and bad points.

Good points.
Location. It is located in the charming neighborhood of Leblon and just few steps to the more famous Ipanema. My room had a beatiful view of the beaches (Leblon and Ipanema) and of the Chrsit.

Spacious rooms.

Breakfast. A good assort of fruits and bakery.

Gym center. Yes, it is a tiny one, but as no one uses (or at least was not using it while I was there) it you will have no problem on its size. Best of all, a gorgeous overlook to the "Morro Dois Irmãos".

Bad points
Complementary internet just in the lobby area and the signal was not good.

Worst of all, decor is outdated. It has a very 80's feelings. It not an 80's revival, but 80's as it really was in the 80's, although in good state to be fair. Ok that TV is quite new and the shower is really strong, but a minimum update shoud be welcome.

If you do not bother about theses issues, this property can be a very good choice. If it was not this, I would rate the hotel as 4 star.

Room Tip: Take a room at a higher floor for a better view.

I chose the Marina Palace Hotel based on the price it offered on Expedia. I was not surprised when I arrived and found the room a little dated but I still had panoramic views over Leblon and Impanema beaches. On the first night the air conditioning had a fault and water was starting to flood the bathroom. The next morning I notified the front desk and they sent the manager to inspect. We were instanting upgraded to a suite on the 21st floor.

I couldn't have been happier with the result and I was pleased that I wasn't disadvantaged because I had used a discount website to book the accommodation.

Room Tip: The higher the room the better the view!
