“what a view!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2013

This was our first hotel in Brazil and the location overlooking Leblon beach was perfect. Decor is a bit dated but everywhere was clean and tidy. The rooftop pool was a disappointment as it is only the size of a large plunge pool - not worth attempting to swim in. The views from the roof are superb. Staff in the restaurant were rather aloof and a little more friendliness would help. However we found that the reception staff were very helpful on several occasions. Excellent breakfasts with a wide choice of fruits, fruit juices etc. The location is ideal for restaurants as there are many a short walk from the hotel. For a quick drink pop out to one of the many kiosks along the lovely promenade - we recommend the fresh coconut.

Room Tip: worth paying the extra for one overlooking the beach

This hotel, like most of the hotels in Leblon - Ipanema and Copacabana is abit dated BUT it does have an excellent location in Leblon in front of the beach. It has views from the front and the side so all rooms have a view (the rooms at the front are abit bigger and have the best views but you will have to pay a little more).

The restaurant is ok (try the asian restaurant / bar on the ground level on the side of the hotel instead). Its also only about 3 or 4 blocks to the street (I forget the name) back from the beach (10 mins walk) which has a whole bunch of great bars and restaurants and is the place where you want to be in the evening.

The hotel has a free towel and beach chair service on the beach in front of the hotel which is good but dont leave going to the beach anywhere in Leblon - Ipanema too late in the day as the sun moves round and puts most of the beach in shadow after about 4pm.

The gym is not worth the time but there is a roof terrace with the best view of all and for those who need a decent gym there is a bodytech 5 mnutes walk from the hotel where you can drop in - its a great gym but expensive for just a day.

I've staying at this hotel for at least 10 years, but my last stay was a complete disaster. The only two good things were the buffet and the view. The front desk was unhelpful many times. One day, the toilet clogged and it took hours for some to come. On another day, we woke up and there was no hot water for the kids to bathe. Despite many complaints about a strange noise in one of the elevators, nothing was done by maintenance until we got stuck in the elevator with two minor kids for almost 20 minutes. But the most bizarre thing was that after we left the broken elevator at the lobby (just 10 feet from the front desk), no one at the reception cared to put an "out of order" sign or prevent people from taking that elevator (and there were 5 staff people at the front desk). We went for lunch at the 2nd floor and the hotel kept letting people use the elevator without having fixed it. It is shame that a hotel at such great location is in such a poor condition. On the other hand, the staff and food at the restaurant at the 2nd floor was great. A good "feijoada" buffet is served on Fridays, which accompanied by a cold beer and a window table make you almost forget all the hassles.

This hotel's location is probably the best in Rio. Right in front of the Leblon beach and all Leblon bars, restaurants, shops within 1 km. Also Ipanema is within 2-3 km walking distance. The view from the hotel is spectacular. The hotel has a popular street bar below, Bar da Praia. With that all good things have been said.

For a hotel charging on normal days USD 250-500 per room, the unrefurbished rooms look tired and are badly maintained. Decoration is poor and old. Sound proofing is poor with even on the 19th floor a lot of noise from the busy traffic on the beach boulevard, including each weekday the seven o'clock free alarm by the police car placing the traffic cones at the side streets

Service is inconsistent: one day friendly and helpful, the other day uninterested. On a Sunday we left our room from 09:00 till 16:15 and upon return the room was still not cleaned. Probably anticipating our very late check-out of 22:30, but if you charge a full day extra charge, then also provide the full day extra service, including cleaning, making beds, and towels.

WiFi is charged extra in the room and only free at the ground floor lobby and bar and rooftop bar and 'pool'. Pool is 5 x 3 meters, with 3 small areas with beds surrounding it. But why go to the pool if you have the beach in front of the hotel? Unfortunately on the beach the hotel does not always provide sufficient chairs and umbrellas and is not willing to solve this by hiring additional ones from beach vendors.

Exclude the expensive BRL 45 breakfast. For much less you have much better options in Leblon (juice bars, Talho Capixaba, etc.).

I do not recommend this hotel anymore and know you can get better in the Leblon - Ipanema area.

Room Tip: When booking ask specifically for the refurbished rooms, preferably beach view. The older ones are i...

As all other reviews show the location is excellent.

Service at the front desk is pretty good too, with great english speaking staff, very friendly and helpful.

The rooms are very average, the renovated ones still look dated with overtiles in the bathroom etc. The shower is a nightmare, you have to get in the cubicle to turn it on but can't get out of the way of the shower head so get the cold blast first, poor design.

Bed though is pretty comfy and all very clean, so no major hassles.

Breakfast is okay, though if you ask for a cappuccino or latte you have to pay extra, and wait around 10 mins.

We didn't eat in the restaurant other than breakfast. Would I stay again? Possibly, as the location is so great. Direct room rates are not bad, unfortunately we were staying over confed cup so the rate was way high.

Room Tip: ask for a sea view.

If you are passing by and you will only sleep and do not enjoy the hotel services, it's a good hotel.
But if you stayed for a period and you give some attention to things like wifi and quality of breakfast, you will be asking for more

Marina Palace is located across the street from the beach and a block away from shoppping, banks, and restaurants. A taxi can meet you at the front door to go anywhere in the city. The staff is kind and helpful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. There is a pool, bar, and lounge area on the roof, although we were unable to take advantage of that because of the weather.
The restaurant is sufficient and reasonably priced. The ony apparent weakness was the wifi signal.

Room Tip: View of the beach would be preferred.
